In a foursomes strokeplay competition my partner and I were in process of agreeing where to take relief from a Greenside bush.

The other pair, playing ready golf, holed out with a 20-foot put not seen by either me or my partner.

They play with integrity so no suggestion at all that they didn’t hole it, but should they have waited or drawn our attention to fact that they were playing?

Because of COVID it’s mark your own card but the verbal acknowledgment we gave went purely on their word, not what we’d seen.

Thoughts please...

Ready golf surely means play when you’re ready, not when every one else is. Don’t know if ready golf applies to match play or not.

As you were playing ready golf I assume it was not a match and they were not playing out of turn.
But whether or not, it is not uncommon to be in a situation where you cannot see another player's shot (eg behind a large bush). As you imply, golf is a game of honour.

Not a match. So trust. If a match and out of order I might be inclined to ask shot to be replayed (depending upon circumstances and opponents). If in turn but out of sight I'd believe - though I might suggest that it would be better to wait until an opponent can see you play - to avoid any 'misunderstandings'.

Twas a match, OP said "In a foursomes strokeplay competition.......". In reply. Ungentlemanly conduct I would suggest. It would have done for me. My head would be in a mess for the rest of the match, which wouldn't last for much longer after that.
