Holiday advice - Worthing

I'm not far from worthing and work in Littlehampton

There are lots of good walks up on downs and to South Downs Way a few miles inland, the sea front is good also

Bexhill, Eastbourne and Hastings are all over an hours drive away

Hill Barn in as good local pay and play golf course, just north of worthing + shame I would of invited you to Goodwood if I could get time off work

As others have said Portsmouth is good for a day visit lots to see, if your intersted in working industrial musuems would recommend Amberley Chalk pits Musuem - well worth a visit together with Arundel

Hope this is of help

Some great PM's (back late tonight so will reply tomorrow), offers and advice chaps, and Ive got to ring D4S back, as well. I do want to meet up with Gordon, if he's available as done me a big favour the other year.

I played West Sussex with BIM the other month. Loved it and sods law only 10 mins away from where we're staying now, but fancy somewhere new. Id rather play somewhere with 4-8 of us, rather than a top 100 for only 2-3 of us, so open to suggestions.

I should be able to get 2 knocks in down there, but probably late afternoons or evening - BTW what time is it light to down there at the mo. Its about 9.30 up here, I think, but possibly earlier down there.

If a few fancy a knock on say Wednesday 8th or Thursday 9th could be a laugh. Thoughts?
Are you staying in Findon?

Possibly in mate, depending on where & when. I've booked therod into mine on Friday 10th so Wednesday might suit me better but Thursday's not necessarily a deal breaker.

Hasting doesn’t have any beaches you can take the dog on, there’s a decent section of beach at Bexhill on Sea you can and I personally prefer Bexhill to Hastings anyway.

Looked at staying in Worthing a few times over the last couple of years, but then found other places which swung us elsewhere (Bacton & Dunster) Still on the radar though so reading this with interest.

Those that know of the Cooden meet with Smithy, will know I know all the pubs in Hastings and especially Bexhill 

Will let you know how it was at Cov, Rob.

Littlehampton - Hayling Island - Isle of Purbeck (tea with Jamie's Dad] great views & lots of walking

Brockenhurst Manor -

Taking the course recommendations on board, Dave, but more impirtantly who fancies it.

You are the right age for Worthing Peter.

Perhaps Pompey are playing at home ? :D

Portsmouth is less than half an hour from my club if you fancy a game.

A possible mate, I have revenge to take on your 1st hole (didnt know about the ditch), and if others fancy it.

When are you down mate ?
This Friday till the following Sunday morning, then high-tailing back to Anfield for the 1.30 ko!!!

I live on the outskirts of Portsmouth. Yes, the Victory is the obvious one to do but they have the Mary Rose exhibition as well which has recently been completely revamped. Also you are only a few hundred yards from the Spinnaker Tower and Gunwharf Quays (plenty of shops and restaurants).

Yes, the missus fancies the Mary rose one, also - I know its only a few planks, but she's more interested on how they found it, got it up etc

Mate,

If parking in Portsmouth, I would suggest parking at Gunwharf as bit of a issue in Portsmouth in regards to theft from motor vehicles ,especially during Summer period mate.

Thanks Guy, but I've got a Skoda, disguised as a Skoda. ;)

worthing -lower -downland
hayling island - but not played - links
dyke - downland
east sussex national - west best but east is where they have europro - parkland - blue tees best
these are best in area

Thanks.

its a bit of a hike from Worthing, 1 1/2 hrs maybe, but we could do a 4 ball @ Brokenhurst on the Thursday

Possible, lar. I dont mind 1 1/2 drive for one of the games.

Yep. love an industrial museum, but for this holiday were gonna walk the dog in the morning on two days then go into Pompey. The other days will be longer walks with the dog and maybe walks in Brighton. We've already been to Hastings (Battle?) for the battlefield.

Are you staying in Findon?
Yup, sure am.

Wednesday or Thursday for me mate.

D4S - gis a bell mate.

Once Ive spoken to Gordon, will sort out a 2nd option and see who fancies it.

Sorry, I couldnt reply to every post, but thanks for the others as well.

Thanks for all the offers / PM's and advice - the forum fraternity at its best.

If you've not been to Findon before you will like it. There's a good doggy walking field on the edge of the village and I recommend Cissbury Ring for a good walk and views. Pubs are good and dog friendly. Have a good one.

Leaving the NW at 11.30/12 on Friday.....

Sat nav says go down and round the M25 - dont fancy that.

Other option says A34 from Oxford but then down to Soton, past Pompey etc along the coast....mmmmm.

I was thinking A34 down to Winchester, then maybe some small A/B roads to meet up with the A272 - good or bad idea - the missus is a good navigator though.

What would you do Friday afternoon/evening?

Try and remain patient whilst your still stuck in traffic.......

Fly ✈️

You going to hit traffic. I would take your last option. Expect probs and don't get irritated. You will get there eventually

A34 to M3 to Winchester is the best option then A272 is a great road to drive through some lovely Hampshire/West Sussex countryside, but as others have said and as its holiday season roads will be busy down here

Avoid M25

Peter, have you tried an app called Waze? If not, download it into your phone (it's free) and use that instead of satnav as it gives live traffic updates and will take you on the quickest route. I'd suggest you use an in-car charger though as it is quite battery intensive.

Broadstone booked for 4pm Sunday, just waiting to hear back from Richard

I still use Google Maos on my iPhone and think it’s far superior, and I live on the road.

I know a lot of people that rave about Waze but shorter/quicker can take you down all sort of single track roads and side streets, I had to bin it as it became a nightmare.

Google Maps is very much live with the quick added benefit of alternative routes once hold ups are known ahead.

Like golf courses it’s all very subjective, but the mileage I do daily, it’s still GM for me.
