In our 4 ball yesterday I counted 11 putts bounce away from the hole after hitting the center spindle.
Thoughts ??

We had these when we started back, the amount of times the ball hit the plastic sleeve an bounced out was very common. we switched about 2 months ago to a very thin loop of wire attached to the plate at the botton, far better esp as we have very thick flag poles due to the wind we have up here.

They may have hit the spindle but probably not dead centre so may well have a lipped out anyway.

Ours are the same design. I play 3 times a week and doubt that I have seen 11 bounce outs within our group in a 3 month period and some of the ones I have seen would probably have bounced off a standard flagstick anyway the speed they were going.

I play with a guy that swears the flagstick knocked his ball away from the hole when the ball gets anywhere near the hole. He's convinced of it.... any missed putt that's "kind of" close.....flags fault.

Hit too hard, I think I have missed less than 11 all year due to inserts etc, I’m sure many would normally kip out anyway. I have given a few in friendly matches but reluctantly accepted only a couple (and added the shot on for my personal score anyway). I play the course as it is, not how I wish it to be.

I can honestly say it has only happened to me once so far - alas, it was for a share of the 2’s pot in our last monthly medal. I’ve seen it happen no more than half a dozen times in six months, despite playing at least twice a week during that time.

Eleven times in one round? Sounds like a good number of those are likely to have been struck too firmly and may well have missed anyway.

Had these up until a month ago, they were rammel For the reasons mentioned. Now have plastic inserts about an inch below the cup lip. A lot lot better.

We have those inserts which make the hole a lot shallower so there's only an inch or two for the ball to drop into.
On Sunday I had a slam dunk wedge from 90 yards which span really quickly around the flag 3 times them popped out and went 15ft away.
Wasn't a happy bunny the hole insert cost me the shot of a lifetime

We have the same system and the black sleeve is thicker than the standard flag and the hole that's around it is therefore smaller. In fact if there is any flag lean you can rest a ball between the sleeve and the hole and there is not room for it to go in. Putts hit dead centre seem the most affected. I've probably seen a dozen or so that were dead certs to drop hit the black part and bounce out. So it's not a lot but it's enough to be a pain!

Yeah those ones are terrible. I played my Uncle's course that had those, they make the flagstick a good centimetre thicker. We saw three bounce-outs in one round that rattled between the stick and the edge of the hole before staying out. Can't say 100 but 99% chance they would have dropped normally.

Admittedly it's been a good 5 months now and we need to get used to the fact that you can't hit those firm putts to take the break out anymore, because they'll more than likely bounce out. You have to take some off and tickle it in, unfortunately. You may see a couple missed that way but at least we can still play.

We have that sort also - seem to work well and we all know to tuck the wire behind the flagstick so that it is hidden to the player putting.

Mind you - played a course recently where the plastic covering of the wire 'lifter' bit had been lost/removed/stolen and without the covering it was very difficult to use your putter to do the lifting - especially as some of the 'lifters' were a little bent. Reduced to carefully picking ball out of hole.

We have fairly thick flags and our inserts have two prongs - one on each side. We have had so many that have hit these and bounced out. We now have to faff around to turn the insert to face directly toward the player to minimise the risk. All adds a few seconds per player per green so not overly happy. A lot of people have complained but the club aren't prepared to spend any more money

I do that for every putt at my place, the lifters we have are pretty rudimentary, so it's a strip of metal down one side of the flagstick. Ever since I had a 20 foot putt bounce out off one, I make sure I turn it round now.

Weve gone from the lifty out devices to inserts. In one round of the inserts I had three putts bounce out. In ten rounds with the lifty out devices I had one bounce out. A lot worse. :)

I think at the moment re golf, we are playing in exceptional times. I had a putt with the pull out thing where the ball went round the back, clearly hit the bar and kicked out. A PP said that should count but another PP said club rules says it don’t and we have to play to them. 4 holes later he did the same, ball kicked out. He was spitting feathers. Point is a think players should have a say if a ball would of dropped or not. At times putting out is like playing with a goalkeeper in the hole.

The ones pictured are better than the ones we used to have.
Thankfully we have moved to new pins that are very slim at the button and have an insert at the bottom so you can easily pick the ball out. I'll grab a picture later.

Cost me a share of the two’s last week, but that’s the only time it’s happened to me in comps. Maybe a couple of times in general knocks. Had more pop out with the upturned cup.
