We have that sort also - seem to work well and we all know to tuck the wire behind the flagstick so that it is hidden to the player putting. We had these when we started back, the amount of times the ball hit the plastic sleeve an bounced out was very common. we switched about 2 months ago to a very thin loop of wire attached to the plate at the botton, far better esp as we have very thick flag poles due to the wind we have up here.
I do that for every putt at my place, the lifters we have are pretty rudimentary, so it's a strip of metal down one side of the flagstick. Ever since I had a 20 foot putt bounce out off one, I make sure I turn it round now.We have fairly thick flags and our inserts have two prongs - one on each side. We have had so many that have hit these and bounced out. We now have to faff around to turn the insert to face directly toward the player to minimise the risk. All adds a few seconds per player per green so not overly happy. A lot of people have complained but the club aren't prepared to spend any more money
Had these up until a month ago, they were rammel For the reasons mentioned. Now have plastic inserts about an inch below the cup lip. A lot lot better.
Weve gone from the lifty out devices to inserts. In one round of the inserts I had three putts bounce out. In ten rounds with the lifty out devices I had one bounce out. A lot worse.![]()
Foam or piping is the way forward.....those hole lifty out things are rubbish and are c. £28 each a go!!! Good use of club’s money there......
I can honestly say it has only happened to me once so far - alas, it was for a share of the 2’s pot in our last monthly medal. I’ve seen it happen no more than half a dozen times in six months, despite playing at least twice a week during that time.
Eleven times in one round? Sounds like a good number of those are likely to have been struck too firmly and may well have missed anyway.
