Played last night at Wychwood Park near Crewe!

Played a quick 9 holes with a friend that works there and 2 young members both 15.

Got to the 6th hole which is a downhill par 3 with a stream running at the front of it and bunkers long, we bushnell'd it at around 160.
One of the young lads, I believe he's off about 8 and a very good player for his age struck the most beautiful iron shot i've seen, all over the pin, it pitched about 8 foot short of the hole, took a little bounce, we all said 'get in the hole' and it disappeared in!

The look on his face was a picture and he was lost for words!
The first one i've ever seen and it was brilliant to watch.

Would love to have one myself! :mmm:

Cracking result for him, hope he got them drinks in!

always nice to watch one go in even if it is one of your playing partners.
i remember being in the pro shop one day chatting to the pro ,a young lad popped in and asked if he could go out and play ,he was told no problem and promptly went off to the first tee ,it is a short hole and about two minutes later he came back in the pro shop and said he had had a hole in one .
i couldnt believe what the pro said to him ,talk about knock a kid down ,he asked him if anyone saw it go in other than him ,well there wasnt anyone around so obviously not ,he then said it didnt count as nobody else saw it happen .
the kid stood there totally shell shocked ,i took him outside and told him he had done fantastic and he should be very proud and dont take any notice of the sour faced git in the pro shop .
he cheered up and went on his way ,
that was about six years ago and every time he sees me now he comes and says hello and thanks me for what i said to him that day .
i also told the pro what a **** he had been to the kid ,and pretty much since that day i have had a feeling of not being his best mate now or anytime soon.
well done to your youngun on his hole in one ,and i hope it was you that bought him a drink in the 19th

Sad to hear about about stuff like that especially from a pro!
at my old club a young lad only about 9/10 had a hole in one after a thin shot found its way in and apparently one of the other young lads Dad brandished it a fluke which didn't go down well!

As mentioned before I had to dash for football and they carried on playing as I only played 9! Will definitely get him one when I next see him though!

I've never had a HIO, but have witnessed two.

The first was an albatross on a drivable par 4. Unfortunately it was during a bogey competition, so it cost him in the bar and he still only scored +1

The second was a guy who is renowned for never buying a round. When it went in the hole, the look of horror on his face as he realised the financial implication was priceless.

My opponent had HIO in a friendly 4 ball match play, but I had a 2 net 1.
He wasn't too amused when I said, a good half mate, make mine a brandy:D.

What did you think of the course? I stayed at the hotel in April, okay but very corporate, but couldn't work out if the course was any good or not. Is it worth playing?

My closest friend works as assistant manager there mate so I play frequently and I only live 5 minutes away.

It's got a bit of a reputation as a brute but if you keep it straight it's a relatively straightforward course but totally different off the back tees, that's when the course gets a lot more interesting.

There's some good and bad holes there, 2 of the 4 par 3's let it down as they're short and simple and there's a couple of pretty bog standard par 4's.
Front 9 is straightforward imo, keep the ball straight and you'll score well. The back 9 is a lot more strategic and requires your thinking cap a bit more which I prefer as it makes it interesting!
Always find the fairways and greens pristine and last night they were brilliant, ball was stopping due to the recent rain but they were fast and rolled true when putting.
The 17th is one of the best par 3's i've played and I never tire of playing that hole, some of the houses on the back of it are a sight too!

The only negatives with it at the moment are the length of the rough, it was up to my knee in places yesterday and i'm 6"2!
The other negative is the walk between some tees, walking on a Saturday can take around 4 1/2 hours in a 2 or 3 ball which is just too long for me.

I think it is a great resort course compared to others around here (Portal, Mottram Hall etc) but there's much better courses out there!

A pal of mine got one at Worksop, 18th in front of the club house. It was rammed. They all clapped him as he drove up.Put his "madge" buggy in the back of his van, gave his scorecard to a PP to put in and drove home without buying a drink.
he got ripped to bits at the pit. His response was he put the bottle of whisky he got for a HI1 behind the bar. Tight git.

Re the kid getting a hole in one, how much does it cost for a bottle of ribena and five gallon of tap water now a days, coz he cannot buy Skol lager yet.
