Playing a round with my dad and one other senior the other day, we got to the 4th, which is a slight dog leg left, you can't see the green as there are a few lines on conifers down the left hiding it. In front of the tee box about 75yds in front there are two large mature trees, for which you generally aim for the middle, a good straight shot off the tee leaves you with a short wedge to the green.

My dads friend went off first, a nice shot a little right but it stayed on the short stuff, my dad hit a good straight shot between the trees smack into the middle of the fairway.

Up steps me, I aimed left over the top of the left hand tree, let rip and the ball went more left than intended and for the world looked like it was going to end up in the conifers at the far end. My dad even commented so.

As we walked up to the balls, I trudged through the trees looking for my ball, it was no where to be found, I cleared the trees still no where to be found, walked up to the front left bunker not in there, but there on the green was my ball.

It's 292yds to the front of the green and mine was well on, I was well chuffed, first put was up a step, played it careful but not so careful, got the ball to within 2 feet, then sunk it for a birdie.

My dad's friend commented that he had heard of others making the green in one, but he'd never seen it himself until I had done it. He then went on to tell everyone we passed for the next 14 holes about my drive.

Needless to say a 292yd drive, green in regulation in one on a par 4 and a birdie, I was well chuffed and I think my dad was pretty pleased as well.

Cheers
Dave

I remember doing it once, a 270 yard carry on a 320 yard dogleg hole up onto a two tier green, searched in the trees and bunker only to find it 8 feet from the pin! I rarely get that close on par 3s!

Well done on the drive, will you try and do it next time or lay up with a shorter club off the tee and wedge onto the green?

I don't want to pee all over your bonfire, but was the distance to the front of the green 292 yards on the line you took, or 292 yards through the centre of the fairway following the dogleg?

Either way its a good achievement.

The hole is a dog leg by the very nature of the terminology, where as in reality it's more like a straight hole with the green off to the left at the end and it's the trees down the left that hide the green.

It's not a hard hole, it has a stroke index of 10, 292yds off the yellow tees and 308 off the white.

The ball may or may not have gone 292yds, but who cares, it was green in one and a birdie, happy days :D

Just to add another another angle, our 11th hole is 320 yards slight uphill off the back sticks yesterday knocked onto the back edge of the green, did make a great par four!! :( played like a true plank yesterday.

Well done on making it down in 3.

Depends on who I'm playing with, if it's just me and my dad then I'll probably go straight and chip on, but if the auld fella is playing then I'll have to go for it as the expectation is there, so no pressure then

Nice one.

Though the way I'm swinging my driver at the moment I'd be lucky to make 120yds nevermind 300.

i hit a par 4 last monday in a match i had away to a player from normanton its there 5th hole par 4 299 of whites i hit 4 iron and got it on the green pin high

I use to hit a few of the par 4's at my old course regularly. Granted they were pretty easy at 285 yards and straight and the course would run but its like any shot it still needs hitting. Well played and glad you didn't do anything silly like 3 putting

We only have 1 :(
320 off the whites, about 300 to the front edge.

Been on it a couple of times but mostly leave myself a distance I don't like, but it'd be rude not to try to smash driver and reach the green.

Managed a good one today that finished about 10yds short.

Hit our 17th in 1 yesterday, 275 yards slightly uphill.
Proceeded to 4 putt for a nice bogey !!!

Had an 80 (par 68) with 4 x 3 putts and 1 x 4 putt.

Save to say I need a bit of time on the putting green this week, should still get a cut though.
