Just wondering are you a high or a low ball hitter with the irons.....
Iv heard a lot of commentators saying such and such a Pro is naturally a high ball hitter and such and such is a low ball hitter.....

Im trying to lower my flight...Well my Pro is trying to get me to lower it......Now im not short but not a long hitter either i dont thing...Standard 7 iron for me is about 155 yards.... Iv been using a brace on my left wrist for the past 2 weeks to stop it breaking down at impact and to also help me keep it flat at the top of the backswing... But im still getting a pretty high flight...
I use TT DG S300 shafts and apparently these are as low launching as they come......
But should i be happy with my distance and just accept that ill always hit a high ball...

My Pro reckons that once i get it to come down then ill increase the distance too as ill be coming through the ball better...

Since my swing change i have shallowed an awful lot....

I dont know will these no's mean anything to anyone but my 7 iron goes 155....I had a 6 degree positive swingpath......My dynamic loft fluctuated between 25 degrees and 29 degrees and the static loft of my 7 iron is 35 degrees......

I cant really remember any of the rest of the measurements......

I don't see the point of trying to adjust what is happening AT impact - as the contact is for such a short time. Maybe through the impact zone though.

S300s are indeed deemed to be low launching. Not sure whether the heads are though.

Not sure about the heads either Foxholer......This is a cut out of them...Havent a clue myself....

Height is a result of backspin and loft so either a less spinning ball or don't hit them so hard which would also give less spin.

If you are a high hitting player and dont want to put the effort in to change then clubbing up and hitting a 3/4 or 80% swing (depending on what makes you slow down) will give the same distance but lower flight

The only thing that i can add SB is that i swing my 7 iron at 87-88mph average.....Which i know is probably stupid high...But i actually swing pretty much in control with that......Iv had it higher....
Am i actually putting too much spin on the ball so with my swing speed more so than anything else.

Im trying to get it down though....Making my swing a bit more smooth and fluid....It aint easy.

I also swing at that speed, well 86 with 6 iron anyway. I wouldn't say my ball flight is too high but I do launch a ball well. I hit my 6 iron about 160 and it goes up into the air well.

Really my only questions are why do you think you are too high and why do you want to change? A high ball can do well and be controlled, I hit two 5 irons high today and both were arrow straight, one pitching 2 feet from the pin on a par 3.

To be honest im not really sure.... My Pro was saying that when i loose my ball right im leaving the clubface open at impact which is why im working on the left wrist issue....Thats helping no end....

Maybe i just think im hitting too high and in reality its fine..... I think at its apex the ball reached about 90ft......From memory.....
But my Pro was showing me that he hits it 5 mph less than me but 20 yards further.....

Still i set out at the start to get more consistent and narrow my dispersion which iv achieved pretty well.... And i now swing much better in to out....So i suppose i should be happy!

I'm a high hitter, to the point I write "welcome to earth" on them just in case. It does rob me of some distance but I make up for it when firing into the green.

I think a low launch can have the same peak height as a high launch, the only thing different is the way the two reach the peak height at different points in the flight. A low launcher is more efficient, has more backspin and goes further. I aim for a low launch but I still get a high flight.

My pro says the sweetspot is between grooves 4 and 5 on the iron, hit it lower down the face and you get less efficient strike and therefore less distance. The low launch, high rising, high flight comes from that drive down into the ball making it rise up and float down.

Mine is air traffic control high. The planes swerve when i hit a shot :mmm:

Funny thing is ive had a lot players asking how i do it and they want to do the same? Yet i think its too high! Crazy game.

Comes in handy a lot of the time though especially with the amount of trees at my course.

Always been a low hitter but especially with my Palmer irons I have currently, all the weight is in the bottom so quite often my fairways irons look like I haven't caught it right but end up going just as far. Bit frustrating on wet winter days as the ball gets caught up but is good against the wind.

I hit it stupid high on all my clubs,I would love to hit it lower as I know it robs me of distance, what's this brace you speak of?
I think my lessons this year will be focused on lowering ball flight.

Another high hitter here. I quite like it, as the ball sits down quickly on the green. I'm not a fan of shots into wind though.

Same as this Murph.... Our course is windy a good share of the time. One good thing is its easy for me to get long irons well up in the air the wind can have its say too..... Think ill just play away with what i have and see how the season goes.

Shewy, its called The Key...... I think some guycqlled Gary Wirren promotes it.. im on the phone at the moment so its hard for me to send a link. So when i get home from work later ill post it for you... its mallabe so can be bent to fit either the back of the left wrist or the right wrist.

I am a low/mid player.

I can hit it high when I need to, but other than that I prefer the mid flight I get.

When I goth fitted my launch angle with a 6 iron averaged at about 16* with the R300 shafts in my irons.

As I say I like the flight I get as it's a very forward flight and penetrating. With lighter shafts I got a pretty high flight so much so i n fact the ball would shoot about 90 yards up and then drop vertically like a stone.

With my mid-flight I get, as I say, a good forward flight with a little run for good measure.

It can make firing at greens a little tricky, but then again, I generally lay up to a wedge distance anyway so it on ly really affrects me when I'm going in with a mid iron. I that case I'll pull a club that will land short and run on (...... Hopefully).
