Anyone watch his new show?? I know there are some foodies on here (Chris??) but 4 hours to make a meat pudding?? Never mind the marathon that was making chilli !

Interesting to hear some of the science behind cooking beef but drove me straight back to the frozen ready variety :o
 
His techniques are a bit tiring but you can't argue with the results. If I was doing a fancy dinner party, I might take the time, but it's a bit much just to cook dinner at night! I'm glad he showed the proper way to cook a steak though! Not enough people know how to do it properly.

The fabulous baker brothers that was on after it was good too.

Agree about the steak as I never really enjoy it at home and now I know why. Not sure I'd ever dare have the pan quite so hot though !! I watched it on Sky+ this morning from my bike and meant I could watch without salivating as steak at 6am just doesn't do it for me !

I missed how hot he made the pan but I always heat it for at least ten minutes before putting the steak on it.
 
I didn't see it but we did have one of Hestons Christmas puddings this year. It was ok but I wish we had sold it for £250 on ebay! Apparantly you couldn't reheat it again so what was left had to be eaten cold. Next year it's back to home made for sure as our main thought was just how sickly sweet it was

I'm a really keen cook, but have to say I usually watch Heston's programmes and think, that's interesting, but i'll never do any of his recipes.

For me it's more about understanding the science and debunking popular myths... a bit like golf technique :whistle:

Really looking forward to watching the Baker Boys. I ate Henry Herbert's food when he was at the Coach and Horses in Clerkenwell... my sort of food.

My Mrs got me a butchery class for Christmas, so fascinated to find out more!

She paid for the £175 voucher which is a full day. If you check out their web page, there are seveal good courses and I quite fancy the seafood or Michelin star courses - not booked anything yet though

I had a Heston pudding too and really enjoyed mine, the sweet candied orange in the middle was excellent. I had no trouble re-heating it. Couple of minutes in the microwave and it was spot on.
 
I did a butchery course back in my army apprenticeship, was great knowing all the cuts etc, I reckon you will love it.

The more time you put in the better it tastes, My favourite dish is shin of beef braised in the oven for like all day pop in some button mushrooms, baby onions for the last hour or 2... just melts in your mouth :p

We have a book club in work where we can get top titles cheap. they had a Blumenthal recipe book and some of it went over four pages for even so called simple dishes and thats without trying to source 90% of the ingredients. I love it from a science v cuisine collision/battle and have eaten at his restaurant and it is sublime but its not feasible in my opinion for even the most enthusiastic amatuer cook to try and replicate what he does
 
me and HID watched it. flipping a steak every 15seconds seems a bit keen haha but it deff looked like it worked.. looked lovely. no good if i cook for my old man as he hates it pink haha
 
Im also a keen cook but wouldnt do any of Hestons recipes as they appear to be far too time consuming and hassle.

Im into Italian food so cook lots of Italian dishes.
