Help with my swing please

Love the dog giving you some help mate.

It looks like you stand too far away from the ball and sway far too much on your backswing, you come over the top on your down swing.

Imaging your feet are stuck in concrete and just work on rotating you upper body while keeping your right arm stuck to your side and legs square.

You don't have any extension through impact. Imagine looking at where the ball was after impact, and pushing your arms down the target line, whilst releasing the hands.

At the moment you suffer from my problem at/after impact which is coming off the shot, pulling the left shoulder back, and looking for the ball, not finishing the swing.

I don't think you are too over the top (a bit, maybe), but you are standing too far away from the ball. Your posture is also a bit slump shouldered. You need a curve (the other way) in your spine, with your arse stuck out like you are sitting on a shooting stick.

You have elvis style jelly legs. You need a stable platform to hit from.

You also have one too many dogs in your swing, and too much smoke.

Think the action is ok, you would probably gain some power by standing more upright and slightly closer to the ball as all the power comes from the body rotation, not the arms. The extension is weak, think of Tiger's advice - "Shake hands with the target" - basically saying keep those arms travelling right through the ball after impact and reach for the target.
The swing is nicely on plane though and set up looks ok, right hand grip looks a little strong maybe - could lead to turning the club over and hooking!
If you didn't value the pro's advice see another one, none of us are experts.

yeah will give all those tips a blast tonight.

The pro i used just seemed to always have his mind on other things he would tell me to do something then not tell where i was going to wrong so i will see a different pro soon.

i noticed that i was very slumped in the swing myself so will try getting closer and straigtening my back out tonight and revideo it aswell so i can see.

Keep them coming though all valuble tips to me :)

Remember trying to ingrain swing changes can take a long time and much frustration. If you don't get it right it could be disastrous, find a decent pro, you've the makings of a decent swing and appear to have good hand-eye co-ordination so you shouldn't need too many lessons.
You also have a dog that collects golf balls, I wish mine would! :(

Is this a test? lol.For one thing you are not relaxed at all, your body is often hunched up by the time you have hit the ball, a bit like the reaction of someone hitting a ball and smashing someones window lol.

You practice on a thick mat now and then I see, not a good Idea when it puts the ball above a flat plain, its a bit like hitting a ball on a slope where its above your feet, nothing wrong with that if you come down the shaft a little but you dont ( how often do you top the ball elsewhere?).

DONT practice with the dog there! My dog is just as bad, put the thing away so your focus is uninterrupted.

Because you hunch up you do not allow a natural follow through. Your stance is not always the same, nor are your body movements.

If anything, stand a little further away, make sure of full extension through the swing.
Take a controlled easy back swing.
Accelerate your swing progressively through the ball, rather than trying to go from zero to 5 million miles an hour in an instant.

Relax your body to allow it to do what you ask , not tense up! (Dont relax to the point you are a jelly lol)

Shorten your back swing a small amount and focus on striking the ball cleanly and smoothly and you should find a more accurate and consistant direction.

Try a loosen up swing prior to address and striking the ball, to help you get a more relaxed swing. A tense or stiff or rushed swing is not good.

If your natural shot is a fade for example, standing closer can sometimes make it worse, but there is no harm in trying it.Your swing I noticed was a little bit vertical for me but if you are comfortable with it then so be it.
Work with what youve got I say.

Out of interest, what do you usually shoot?

My average is around 55 on 9 holes and about 115 on 18 i have booked a lesson on thursday so will see how that pans out.

Oh i only hit it off that thick matt as the astro turf hadnt turned up yet but it has now so will be using that from now on.

i have all sort of problems at the moment the only club i seem to hit well is my driver and my lob wedge 60 degree.

i cant hit my 3 wood for love nor money so dont use it same with my 5 and rescue club.

I seem to have on average 5 or 6 ok holes on a 9 hole round of 5/6's then a few 8,9's wich always mess the score up.

The problem i had with the pro aswell was he said my grip was wrong but didnt want to change it which i thought was odd.

Is that a rabbit in the net?!

I dont think your swing is too bad, main things I noticed:

1.you're a bit rushed, slow down a bit
2. Your feet are too flat, you need to stay athletic, and dont allow your right leg to lock.
3. Biggest thing is your arms collapse on follow through-extend the right arm, i'm sure you pronb hit a few duff shots as because of this.

nah not a rabbit its a carrier bag with some balls in it lol.

will try out all the tips when i get home afterwork am playing 9 holes tomorrow so will let you know how i get on.

One other tip, and this is an easy one. Leave the 3 wood at home if it isn't working. You could shoot way better scores than that with a decent 7 iron.

Fairway woods aren't the easiest clubs to hit.

Id say stop practising on a mat and get yourself down to the fields or parks.

Its alot easier hitting the ball off a mat, instead of grass.

We would probably know alot more if you done it on grass, you might be hitting it fat or Toeing it.

That 7i swing looks very nice, certainly better than the scores you say you are getting.

Pause the swing at the point the ball is making contact and you will see that you body/legs have not really turned enough. The downswing in golf starts with the bottom half of the body, that's where the power comes from. Find a video on Youtube of a pro's swing and watch where the weight transfer is on impact.

So having told you all that, I had better try and do it myself as well !! :o

Just looked at your driver vid, same applies. Look at where your legs are at impact, they are in almost the same place as you started the swing.

Hard one to crack this one, but when you do you will add 25% to your length.

Good luck.

I'm guilty of the lack of weight shift, too, 44ark. When I do achieve it the drives are longer. Something to concentrate on.

Actually think your backswing is pretty good so you shouldn't go far wrong with a few more lessons. The one very obvious thing was the hands position with your driver side-on. The arms and shaft should be more in line than they are.

Cheers

There is definitely some marked improvement especially with the 7 iron swing. My advice would be to find a pro you get on with and understand and follow what he is saying. Then it is just a question on building on what he tells you. There is definitely some potential to work with though

You are still hunching up, you are controling a reasonable swing with bent arms in the wrong places.

If you look at your swing as it comes up from striking the ball it looks like you are lifting it out of the way rather than letting swing momentum take you there.

But there is improvement, but you are not reducing the BIG back swing and Muscling through the ball now are you? :)

Bigger and longer swings means greater area for something to go wrong.

I loved those first vid's.....such entertainment!! Wild dog, door mat, massive golf ball net......crazy!!

Find a different pro.....get the right one and I reckon you'll do well....there's some talent there!

I concur with most of what's been said. My tip would be to go and buy a beach ball for 99p at Asda and practice throwing this (golf swing style) into the net (or at the dog!) As you let go of it, try and notice what happens to your arms....I'll bet that after you've let go of it, the'll both be outstretched towards the target.

Once you've got the feel for that, try to do the same with a club.

You can then use the beach ball for your legs or chipping practice. Best £1 you could spend.
