[Help] Timing of rolling hands to get the club face straight

Currently i am working on a very small quarter swing to try and get the ball to go straight while rolling my hands as advised by golf instructor.

I believe the issue is i either roll my hands too much / too early and the ball ends up going hard left or i do not roll early enough / too slow and the club face stays open and goes dramatically right.

I have practised for hours now and it is only going straight a small percentage of the time.

is there some secret to getting the timing right so the face ends up square? Or some drill i can maybe do to help?

I am seeing golf instructor next wed but really wanted to get this ironed out before seeing him again so i can move on from a quarter swing.

You sure this is what he said?

In Jim Hardy's book "The Release" he explains that the wrists can move in three distinct ways. Standing addressing the ball you can move the club up & out in front of you, roll the radius over the ulnar (or vice versa, not sure which), this is "rolling the wrists" or waggle the club backward & forward, keeping the back of the left hand facing the hole. Jim calls the last one "flexion" & that's how the club should be released into the ball. There will be a little bit of roll as the backswing progresses but shouldn't occur on takeaway or near impact. He recommends that the forearm rotation is reversed early in the downswing. The "flexion", when reversed, is along the line of the swingpath so the only miss should be a slight pull or push.

Rolling the wrists excessively is just introducing massive inconsistency. And how are you going to get any power from a "very small quarter swing", unless you have muscles like Popeye.

I have a similar issue. I swing right handed but I have a strong left side.
My issue is I hold off on the left. To break this I will roll the right wrist to make my wrists feel “neutral” .
If you take your grip and then raise the club and hold it straight out in front of you and do effectively a baseball swing. You will see how the face travels through the swing naturally without you having to do anything.
Then hit a few balls and see how you get on.
Of cause this goes all to rat sh*t when your glove or grips are poor because you start to grip hard and put tension in your forearms 🙁

If you are a golfing machinist ones akin to a horizontal hinge action and one a vertical hinge action. They see angled as possible too and aren't as prescriptive.

Jim's giving u a couple (actually more) of methods with the preferences aligned. A very useful instruction series imo.
