Bought the R9 Supertri last week after having the TM Burner 09. I want to the driving range with it on Thursday night to have abit of a tinker with it as most of my drives were slicing horribly right. After a few adjustments with it I got a nice little draw starting off low to high which I was happy with. Come Saturday I was playing in a club singles and every drive I hit had my slice back again. I checked my grip and stance and everything seemed to be the same as when I was in the driving range. It's really starting to play with my head. Any tip's?

One very simple tip, if not fix. Get a lesson then go to the range every other night for a month, or at least more then once before you get upset.

Why did you change drivers? they are both the same age just about.

do you know what actually causes the ball to slice?

Why not take a few minutes to find out.

I'd get a lesson from a pro who knows this model and get him to set it to your swing. A guy a played with a few weeks back has spend hours on the range trying to fix he's swing to match he's r7 driver only to find he's swing was fine, but the weights in the head were wrong. The pro reset the weights to suit him and the sod is smashing it bullet straight.

This is exactly the reason I'm not keen on adjustable drivers

I would say don't bother with the weights, they are not supposed to straighten out a bad swing. Its meant to adjust the flight. if you have a massive slice it means you have an out to in swing, i don't think any amout of weight on one side will correct this. When i started playing i too had a massive slice and just worked on my swing, now driving is the strongest part of my game. The last two drivers i've had have been adjustable, though i have had them set up neutral and only had them cos i liked the headshape a shafts in them.

This has always been one of my real issues with these adjustable drivers all the way back to the R7 and to some extent including the draw bias models. They only mask any swing flaws. The best way of hitting good drives is to have a repeatable swing that will keep it in play and give you a shot shape that you can rely on whether that is a fade or not.

I'd get a lesson, get the driver set up to neutral and work on the swing from there. If you need a little help then one small tweak open or closed but leave it then and work on the swing drils you get from the pro

I've noticed a similar problem in that I'll start off my round drawing it nicely but then 5 -6 holes in will start blocking it right and I've put it to down to trying to gain those few extra yards so swinging harder/faster. Once I slow down and swing easy the draw is back and it's middle of the fairway time :)

I've had a few lesson's and all my iron's and woods have a pretty good ball flight(most of the time). It's just my driver that has a massive slice and as you can imagine a huge lose in distance. My driving in the range work's well but it goes missing when on course :D. I wasn't very happy with the burner so I decided to change.

I've got the same driver and had the pro who is giving me lessons set it up for my swing. As said previously if you try to force the shot you will lose all control. Mine is set to neutral upright which is supposed to promote a slight draw and 60% of the time it does. I have not touched the weights since I bought it and on the whole am very happy. However if I go for the beast of a drive invariably I end up with a high slice.

i have a supertri and i do use the different setting's but its not a long term fix. i hit a few balls before i play and if i notice a bit of a trend, for eg a little slice then i tweek the settings to suit for the the round i'm just about to play. at the end of the round i put everything back to nautral and get down the range to fix the problem. i must admit i do feel like i'm cheating a little.

This is a total punt and I am in now way a pro and have not seen your swing but my guess is: you have a new driver, you want to beat the crap out of it(as any of us would). If thats the case I will guess you are over-swinging then having a problem getting back on plane so your coming over the top and hitting the ball on the outside, thus spinning the ball right. Maybe go to the range, hit some irons till your warm and then hit the driver with a 3/4 swing and moving forward from there.

What exactly are you working on on the range then? What are you trying to fix and what's the point if every time you hit a few balls before you play you tweak the driver head? The only way to know if what you are working on on the range is working is to get out on the course and see what happens, that's where your true swing will show it's colours not in a couple of shots before your round on the range. I've said it before and I'll say it again, when you hit shots on the range there is a certain amount of short term muscle memory involved, if you hit 10 shots in quick succession they are likely to be similar, whether that be straight, hooked or sliced (unless your swing is so inconsistent in which case tweaking the driver head ain't gonna make a blind bit of difference) If those shots aren't your normal shots on the course, ignore them, you aren't likely to take them to the course anyway.

If you're gonna take the time to go to the range and practice, you might as well know what you're trying to fix and you might as well know whether what you are working on works on the course.

C MAC,I have the R9 supertri, great driver, notice you have it in reg flex, could be you just need a stiff flex, maybe demo one with a firmer shaft and see how it goes, stick with it though.....

Na, if he was over powering the shaft the ball would be going left not right.

Believe it or not but there is no good pro near where I live that will tune my driver so that is why I was tinkering with it myself. I went down to the range again last night and I'm starting to think it's all down to my swing,Out to in movement which leaves to club head open. Back to basic's again I think to rebuild my swing. Cheers for all the replies aswll

You think?? :D Sorry but it can only be your swing, they dont make clubs that slice.

All my driver's had built in slice's so I thought it was just the norm for every make driver :). I'm going to the range tonight to break down my swing and try my best to rebuild it maybe with the help of a few lessons aswell.
