Hi all

Joined new club in June. Played competition yesterday won, now being asked if eligible to play, told them played in 3 or more qualifiers at previous club and so far 2 at new club is there going to be a problem. I thought that as long as you had played 3 qualifiers at previous club you are ok to play in comps at new club ???

Any views

It would depend on the competion and the specifications laid down by the competion commitee, but usually in my experience anyway it is only big competions that stipulate such things.

Where I play, you need to have played in 3 qualifying comps in the previous 12 months to be eligible to win anything. I'm not sure if comps from other courses would count for that purpose or not.

Committees seem hell bent on disqualifying new members when they win comps. It happened to me recently, I was DQ'ed for not putting my starting number from the start sheet on my card even though no one had ever told me I had to. When I questioned their decision I was treated with a keep quiet and he'll go away attitude. Yeah I'm going away all right,at the start of next season.

I think it depends on the rules of the event. If it is a main event (gold letter/winners board) then most will ask for three qualifying cards at the new club. If its just a standard affair similar to a mixed stableford and not for any particular trophy I'd have thought a valid handicap would have sufficed. Go back to the handicap secretary and ask for clarification

With a valid h'cap you should be able to go straight in any comp at a new club (unless there are specific rules).
Occasionally, members leave mine and go to the other club in our town. They have to play 3 times in regular comps before entering the club "majors".

Doesn't surprise me.....most folks moving across find the course way easier than mine.

Hi All Thanks for your answers and in reply all I can say is that I do have a current handicap from new club, before comp, and I asked when joining if needed to complete 3 rounds before entering anything and was told that as long as competed in 3 qualifers in 12 month period this was ok - seems to me the left hand is not sure what the right is doing - or am I being paranoid and that it's just because I won that people are now questioning me !!! :p

I think maybe you should listen to the questions and try and find out what the problem is exactly - then you will know if you fufill the requirements rather than worrying and speculating.
