I seem to have a virus/tojan whatever you call it.

I went to log on yesterday tea time and it came up saying something like 'cannot open due to risk of infection' or something like that.

Left it and it then started opening up the internet without me touching it and the sites it opened were things like Viagra.com,giveherit.com etc etc.

Is it knackered or is there a simple way of curing the problem.

Cheers.

Should have bought a Mac. Don't get these problems :D

But in all seriousness, the best thing you can do is back up any "must keep" files to an external hard drive/CD/DVD, make a list of all the programs you've got installed (so you can re-install) and basically start again and re-install windows fresh.

Either that or spend a couple of hours with various Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware/Registy cleaning programmes to make sure it gets it all clean.

In short - there isn't really a "simple" way of curing it, whatever you do is going to be a pain in the arse. But it's definitely curable.

Have you tried turning it off, disconnecting the Modem and restarting it. Then when up and running, run your anti virus software?

One thing to try is something like Malawarebytes.

If you haven't already got it on your 'puter, download it on another machine and save onto a memory stick.

Boot up in safe mode, copy across the program and run it in safe mode. This may well sort out the problem. For other solutions, cue Uncle Fragger

I had this problem a few weeks ago. It kept telling me things were "unsafe" and automatically opening up some anti virus / malware site.
I got a guy in to clean it all out, cost me £30.00 but it's running fine now.
I downloaded Malwarebytes as Leftie recommends, and run this every couple of weeks to make sure no other infections take hold.

Do what the wise man says. It worked for me although it cost me £50. I must visit more porn sites than Smiffy :D

Malwarebytes in good. I also think Superantispyware is good.

Whatever you do, DON'T click on anything you haven't installed yourself or recognise the name of that says you have viruses.
