I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and have become a very big fan of it so i figured i should post this and introduce myself.
I'm Irish, from Kildare to be more precise and like all of you i love golf.I'm in my early thirties and have been playing the game for the last two years and try to get out on the course twice each week.
My handicap is 15(14.9 to be exact) and my golf clubs are Ping G10 driver and irons, two MD hybrids(18 and 21 degree),a Cobra F speed 3 wood and a Fisher Touch putter but the less said about the putter the better.I've got some major issues with it(always easier to blame the club than to bame myself ;),its getting replaced this week!
Anyway, thats me and my golf in a nutshell and i look forward to discussing all things golf in the future.

Hey nulassilb,I'm really struggling to gauge distances with the putter i've got as it has a very soft insert so i'm three putting a lot when i'm outside twenty feet.I'm strongly thinking about getting a Yes! Emma putter, tried it in a golf shop a couple of weeks ago and i really liked the feel and feedback i got from it.Nothing is set in stone yet but thats the one i'm favouring at the moment.

I have similar problems - but I know that it's more me than the putter. I've switched to an Odessey with a soft insert and do find distance control on long putts a problem. My previous putter was a Ping Anser and I was simply not striking it in the middle so was cutting across the putts too often. The Odessey helps me line up better and gives me much more confidence from 8 feet in - I'll just have to work on getting the longer putts more consistent.....and getting closer to the hole for the first putt.

Hi Scobie
Welcome to the site.

I have been having putting problems recently, been playing a lot of years and putting has always been OK but for some reason I have been losing confidence on the greens over the last 4 or 5 months.
Have tried 3 different putters this year (after using the same one and being reasonably happy with it for over 5!) and seem to be getting better results now that I have settled on my YES Tracy. Good feel off the face, and I don't struggle anywhere near as much with the longer putts now. Short ones are still a bit of a problem but that's not the putter, it's my bad stroke.

Scobie, welcome to the forum.
Putting, my favourite subject :)
If you are having problems with the longer putts, dont hit them harder, keep the swing smooth and swing the putter back a bit further.
Hope this helps

Just don't decelerate on the way through - make the followthrough longer to match. ( Guess what my biggest problem on longer putts is :o )

oh, and Hi btw

Thanks for the tips and the warm welcome guys, much appreciated. As regards my putting,i really feel that a firmer face on a putter does make it easier to judge distances and that is what i'm hoping my new putter will do but i'll bare in mind what you guys have to say,i know you guys know your golf.

Welcome along and hope you have a long stay here and get really involved. To muddy the waters even more if you want a firmer face why not look at the Taylomade range with their firm AGSI face.

Enjoy the fun and shopping for a new putter

welcome scobie, it's nice to have company with the putting woes!

sure it's not a case that it's judging the distance and not hitting to the distance that's the problem? You might actually hit to the distance as you see it.

A few members of this forum are getting together in Ardglass on either the 11th or 25th of October, check out the Arrange a Game forum & stick your name down if you fancy it.

Unfortunately my entry for a putting competition would be a waste of money too, I know there's plenty wrong with my game but putting is the one that gives me the most difficulty, could hit two or tree good putts in a row then have a 20 footer & leave it 10 feet short :o

Smiffy. Short ones are still a bit of a problem but that's not the putter, it's my bad stroke.

If you get a chance to practice the short putts, place a pen or a pencil in front of the hole so the ball has to roll over it to get to the hole.
This will help you be more positive over those short ones. :)
