Hi folks, thought i would give a wee bio and say hi.I am 32 and have been playing about 6 months, dont have a handicap yet, spend most of my time at the range and par3,only played one full 18 hole course yet(Lethamhill Muni).I hit my driver about 220 to 250 yards, need to hit my irons a bit further(4 iron 185,5 iron 175,6iron 150ish),have an ok short game(good at chipping, not so good at pitching, decent putter some days),and am trying to sort out the mental side(just got first Bob Rotella book).Phew!Hope to gain insight and wisdom from you good forum folk, will think up some good questions and post soon, thanks in advance! :)

Hi Deke, welcome to the forums :)

185 is a decent clout with a 4 iron, but the most important thing is hitting it the same distance each time, whether it be 160, 185, or 220!

Cheers guys,a fine welcome indeed!.Thanks Region 3,i hoped to hit my 4 iron a bit longer, and was thinking to get a 3 hybrid to reach about 200 yards, if 185 is ok for a 4,i imagine i might just make it if i get one. :)

Welcome Deke.
Just remember, irons are for accuracy. Do not concern yourself with how far, but get consistent.

Howdy you sound pretty similar to where I'm at. Really helpful bunch on here (with perhaps a couple of exceptions) with plenty of advice and guidance to offer.

Are you taking lessons? Don't know what I'd have been like without them!

Anyhoo welcome to the forum.

Thankee all,Tigers question,no,not had lessons yet, just practice down the range and the odd chip n putt, did a lot better in my first proper round than i expected, but i will be getting a few lessons asap.I live near mearns castle golf accademy, and am thinking of joining up,as the yearly fee includes 4 lessons, will let you all know how they turn out. :D

Good luck with the lessons, I've been flabbergasted by how simple small tweaks to your set up, grip, wrist hinge, back swing, posture etc translate into huge positive improvements in your game. Look forward to the update.
