Hello from a new guy

Thread title says it all really

Have been a keen golfer for a long time but never had the time to be able to improve my game. I play off around 20ish currently, My aim this year is to get that into single figures and official.

Basically one thing im struggling with is finding people to play with who are as keen as me? So I guess im looking for wider groups of people to play with, and for tips here and there on anything I come across.

I'd love to join a society but have no idea how I go about finding one, happy to travel to play :lol:

Theres an arrange a game section on here, plenty of ad hoc games and more organised gatherings on there.

Whereabouts in Northants are you and where do you play mainly? Theres a few quys from that neck of the woods on here (im based in MK and play at Aylesbury Vale but often head your way for games, 4 of us are playing at Brampton Heath in one of their winter opens in a few weeks for eg)

The easiest way for you to get regular playing partners and games will be for you to join a club if thats a feasible option

Ye I would be interested to come along to some ad-hoc games sometime i'll keep an eye out in that forum.

I'm playing between Northampton and Kettering on most weekends, but have played a few games around neighbouring counties, like i mentioned though travelling isn't an issue for me really im happy to travel to play other courses.

I'd definitely be interested in joining a local club of some sort and would be open to some recommendations of where to join?

I assume that makes you north of Northampton centre. In that case Id probably look at Brampton Heath (can be a member or pay and play) or Northampton Golf Club (for a more members only club)

Other options would include Kettering And Wellingborough depending on exactly where your based (and your budget) albeit I havent played either for a while

Theres a forum meet that Fish is organising in Coventry in March and another at Mentmore in April that wouldnt be too far for you I expect, otherwise keep an eye out in the arrange a game section

My aim this year is to get that into single figures and official.

The only way you are going to get an "official" handicap is by joining a club..........and if you want to get down to single figures this year, join one fairly quickly, have a few lessons and enter as many competitions as you can.
