Hello from a new golfer

Wow, what a warm response!
As a seasoned Internet Forum user may I just say this is the best welcome yet!
I know its the norm to be wary of newcomers, so again many thanks for the replies. :)

I thought I'd try the RAM FX( as I found it on clearance on T'Internet down from £125 to £24.99!!! At this price I could give the 9.5 loft itch a scratch, so to speak!)
I really want one of the Nike Sumo2 Sasquatch jobbies, but at 200 squidlies thought I better improve a fair bit before shelling that much out- hence the experiment with the RAM.
Yet to use it, it only arrived yesterday but I'm itching to give it a go.

I am a left hander too (or "freak" as my rather charming younger brother calls me. Then again, HE is ginger... ;) )

Teeshot, Nike products - Please don't go there mate.

It is the most overrated crap on the market. The manufacturing quality doesn't match the price tag and the performance isn't exactly top of the scale either.

I have hit both the square and non-square drivers and thought they were nothing special at all.

Get yourself a King Cobra F-Speed for £99. The 454 comp that I am using is an absolute beast. The pro was hitting it over the back fence (260yards) with range-balls last night! The F-speed isn't quite as long but is more forgiving.

My 3 main tips to anyone new to the game are, 1) get a lesson, 2) get a lesson, 3) get a lesson.
Once established, major flaws and bad habits in the swing are very hard to break.

If you need any golf products I can higly recommend www.discountgolfstore.co.uk , they are a great bunch of guys and my regular custom has been rewarded with some freebies and some free tuition. I tend to swerve a.g as I have seen and heard a lot of bad things.

Good advice, Jon,

You had any lessons, Teeshot? Even 4 X half hour lessons should only set you back £60 - £80. Best money you'll ever spend on golf.

Wouldn't quite agree here, I have found Nike's golf clothing to be poor quality and doesn't last but I have had 7 Nike clubs and haven't had any workmanship problems with any of them, 2 Ignite drivers, a SQ 460 driver, a T40 4 wood, an SV gap wedge and 2 forged wedges. I'd go as far as to say the Ignite 10.5 stiff (legal version) was the longest driver I've owned, don't know why I changed it now.

Also played the Nike one platinum ball most of this year and it's an excellent ball, more durable than ProV1 and Cally HX Tour.

As you can see from the Nike discussions above, every one has an opinion, and every opinion is different, but of equal value.

I like Nike clothes. I have never had any problems. I have not used their clubs, but the sumo2 has transformed my mates golf. I just don't like the sound or look of it.

I use the Nike one black, and it is a nice ball.

My dad bought some Nike shoes, and they nearly wore his feet off. Never did break in, so waste of money.

The same happened to me no matter how often i wore them i got blisters. The same is happening with my footjoy aqualites, but they are getting better but slowly.

By the looks of it medway jon is upset!!!

Why would I be upset? anybody would think that I am biased towards the superb products offered by those fine people at Cobra!!!

As I say Stu, joking aside, why hate cobra? and what is your brande of choice?

Welcome to the forum btw, we are a good bunch and there is always plenty of good advice and debate.

Jon

Not been on the glue since i gave up the airfix model kits.

After a few years not playing I got a King Cobra 400 playing and never really got to grips with it. Replaced it with a TM R7 425

Was getting new irons last xmas and tried the Cobra FP's. I was in the last bay and had a few s***ks, one of which hit the metal beam at the edge of the bay and came back and struck me on the knee. Couldn't walk for days

Plumped for TM R7's in the end. Have you worked out TM is my brand of choice yet

Can't really knock TM other than that sorry excuse piece of crap they sell on the golf channel and in JJB and the fact that there lower end of price range irons aren't exactly renowned for their excellence in manufacturing.

Can't believe you didn't get on well with the FP's, they are the best irons that I have ever owned. I find them real easy to hit.

If you tried the F-Speed you would be a convert mate!

Hope to hear from you more in the future, don't be shy to post whatever you like on here, you are more than welcome, remember this is your forum as much as anyone elses! I have never experienced a forum as good as this.
