Hello to all. Great little busy forum you guys got here.

Was wondering if people with small cars, preferably 2 seater sports cars could list what they drive and MOST importantly if their golf bags(cart or stand) and trolleys(pull or electric) could both fit in with no problems.

Seeing as golf has taken over my life, my main priority now when i change my car is if the equipment will fit first. How depressing....lol :D

Thanks

Hi TB and welcome to the forum.

You're not alone in considering boot size when buying a car.
I know of a person who took her golf bag to the showroom to make sure it fitted.
Made perfect sense to me. :)

I can get either clubs or the trolley in the Ferrari but not both together, so therefore usually take the Astra to the course :D

I don't think there are many cars, below exec size that can fit golf clubs in conveniently anymore.

I used to drive a Vauxhall Nova when I were a lad, I could put the bag in straight across the boot, the trolley behind it and I still had room for a boxed subwoofer. My missus has the direct replacement, the Mk1 Corsa, I can get the bag in (golf bag, in the boot, you filthy scoundrels...), but only if I take the driver out, that has to go in separately. A colleague recently test drove a new Corsa, just out of curiosity I had a look in the boot. Unbelievable, I doubt I'd even get the trolley in there, I couldn't even put the bag in if it was empty (granted it IS a cart bag but no bigger than most I'd guess).

When I was test driving new cars, I had a look at the previous model Renault Megane, I couldn't get the bag in there with any woods in it and the driver wouldn't actually go in at all! I ended up getting an Astra (the previous model to the current one) and I seem to recall I had to take the driver out in that as well to get the bag in. Funnily enough I test drove an Astra convertible for the weekend and took it to the golf club with me, that actually had more room than any of them, because the boot's so long it was the most practical of the lot (until you put the roof down of course, then there's no room for anything)! I've got a 57 plate Saab 9-3 now and even in that the bag has to go in diagonally, otherwise it doesn't fit.

It's all because of the rear suspension struts that take up so much boot space these days, the 9-3 also loses some space on the left side of the boot because that's where the off-board amp for the radio lives and it's enclosed, taking a good 6 inches away from the boot width, without that it's possible the bag might go in sideways.

I can't imagine there's many sports cars that will fit a full set and trolley in, unless you're talking Jag sized but they're generally designed specifically to fit a set of clubs in.

When i bought my last car i was guaranteed that my clubs would fit in the boot, and they did. Problem was that was 12 years ago and driver shafts were shorter in those days. To get my clubs in now takes at lot of juggling ! :D

Welcome to THE forum.
If the clubs etc. fit the boot make a template and use it when you go looking for a car to buy: many newer models have less width.
I have to have a car that will take two bags, one with pull trolly attached, and a battery trolly. Guess what it is; yes a Mondeo hatch, the previous model.

I used to have a 03 plate Fiesta and you could only get 2 bags in with the back seats folded down.

Since then, me and the Wife got 2 dogs, this meant a car with a bigger boot! So now I drive a Citroen Berlingo. Loads of space in the boot, best effort so far is 4 people, 4 golf bags and 4 trolleys in the car! If they did that in a soft top you’d be laughing!

I'd imagine my old K-plate Merc 220CE could have managed that, massive boot, although not that deep, it's long and wide but unfortunately I don't have enough friends to try it... :(

I hope that I dont have to borrow the wifes new car - a Toyota IQ, as the car will fit in the golf bag

Still
tax = £0
Insurance fully comp £168
Petrol 65 mpg
Stonks along at 80 on the motorway

I have a Seat Leon. Not a 2 seater but quite sporty.
The bag goes in diagonally after taking the woods out. The trolley sits on top of and in front of that, then the woods go in diagonally the opposite way. Not ideal but not too much hassle.
I would imagine a Golf would be similar.

Thank you all for the welcome and responses.

I may need to change the type of vehicle as my two choices are looking slim(boot space being the problem).
Unless i change to a smaller cart bag and electric trolley....hhmmm! lol
