Have you got plans to go to the Olympics?

I love the Olympics. I doubt I'll be able to get to any events (except maybe the sailing stuff as my Aunt has a holiday home in Weymouth about 20 minutes walk from Portland Marina where all the sailing stuff is happening) which is a shame, but the tickets are quite expensive for a lot of stuff, then you have accommodation etc on top.

Might try to take The Boy to see the Olympic Flame doing it's rounds as it apparently comes near here but not overly bothered enough to actually want to go and watch any of it.
Will probably watch a bit on the Box though...

Anyone remotely interested or (alternatively) very enthusiastic?

No interest whatsoever!!!

I'm interested to hear who, exactly, in the UK the games will benefit (apart from athletes.......)?

Us Londoners will suffer the most - they're saying that a one hour commute to work will take three hours!!! Brilliant!!! Coupled to that will be road closures and security checkpoints, etc. Getting around London will be a nightmare!!!

Also, the London transport system cannot cope with the current users - how will it cope with the influx of tourists/games officials, etc???

The urban regeneration of Stratford and East London is all well and good but what will become of it after the games? Will it be another London White Elephant like the Millennium Dome?

I honestly believe that another city in the UK should have held the games, not London.

If you're into Athletics then it'll be brilliant for you but I'm not so, as they say on Dragon's Den - I'm out.

I'm afraid the answer is a resounding NO, the games come once in a lifetime and what happens they price all but the middle classes out of a ticket. I know it is expensive to stage but surely they could have made the ticket prices a little less expensive so most people could afford to go.

Yes and Yes. Lucked out on tickets though despite applying for £800 worth. So plan to see the torch relay in Peterborough (probably) and then hopefully go to at least one of the "free" events. I think the streets will be rammed as so many didn't get tickets so the atmosphere will be amazing.

I've also applied to be a volunteer so not sure if anything will come of that. I want a garish shell suit as a souvenir!

I did manage to get a pair of tickets for the athletics and this is the line up that we are seeing

Men's 400m Hurdles: semi-finals
Men's 10,000m: final
Men's Long Jump: final
Men's Shot Put: victory ceremony
Men's 20km Race Walk: victory ceremony
Women's 100m: semi-finals, final
Women's 400m: semi-finals
Women's 10,000m: victory ceremony
Women's Discus: final, victory ceremony
Women's Heptathlon: 800m, victory ceremony

Wasn't lucky enough to get any tickets... But my lads did get tickets for the mountain biking which is their passion so really pleased for them...

Really hope the games are a huge success... Proper fed up with all the 'naysayers' :(...

Wow Chris you lucky blighter - that has to be the best night. Jessica winning gold and maybe Mo too - awesome

Not going despite work offering us an auction on tickets.

One girl at work is going to run with the Olympic Torch which is pretty special.

After the World Cup (imho) the Olympics is the next event any country would want to host!

If you have a choice between watching Coronation St or the Olympics which would it be?

Not really so lucky Amanda cos I actually set my heart on the bid for £8,000 worth of ladies beach volleyball tickets and the measly running and jumping is all I got!

I really like the Olympics. I managed to go to the Olympics in Beijing and had a great time. We even lucked out to get almost trackside tickets for the final night of the Athletics.
I entered my name for quite a few tickets for the London games but all I got was two tickets to one of the early rounds of the badminton at Wembley Arena so it's a bit of an anti-cimax. As a bonus, I commute to London everyday so I'm going to get loads of travel delays. :(

Im avoiding the Olympics. Not because I dont like them but because I have a bad feeling that something might happen. I will be sunning it up on my honeymoon for 3 weeks while its on.

Applied for a lot of tickets for athletics, swimming, gymnastics and got diddly.

Got the "2nd chance" offer. £750 a ticket for anything worthwhile.

To top it all off I'll probably end up working in London that month and have the joys of already overcrowded trains being bombarded by about another 1,000,000 people.

Joy.

Yup, going to football, modern pentathlon and something else that I can't remember, might try and get some more football when they go on resale

I can't see how this is going to benefit the UK in general terms. OK parts of London will get a tidy up but how does help a family struggling to make ends meet in Glasgow or some old dear in Liverpool who can't afford to heat her house? Nothing but a glorified beano for the already haves and precious little for the have nots.

I can understand that if you were lucky enough to a) get any tickets at all and b) tickets for something you're remotely interested in then it will be a once in a lifetime event in the same way as going to say the football or rugby world cups (and seing England - or insert nation of yoru choice - win). I'm tempted to watch the flame pass through Bracknell or as close as it comes but thats as far as I'd go

I'm not in the least bit interested in the Olympics and probably won't even watch any on TV apart from what's shown in the normal news.
I can't see how they're going to be of any benefit to the country in general, although I hope I'm wrong.
