To be honest, if after spending 4 hours in my company someone thinks less of me as I didn't take a hat off to shake hands then it's more their problem than mine, so I wouldn't worry about it.;)

Spot on. Never heard anything so stupid. It wouldn't even enter my head if my pp shook my hand whilst wearing his hat and i wouldnt care if he did

Take your hat off to shake hands? Get a grip people, it's a game of blumin golf

So what other things that are considered to be good manners do you think are stupid? Holding open doors? Giving up your seat to an old lady?

The things you have given as examples are things that are done for the betterment of others. Holding a door open is good manners as it makes life easier for others. Taking a hat off is a pointless jesture Especially when the majority dont know what it symbolises.

For someone to say " they think less of someone" if they dont remove they're hat is ridiculous

You might think so but clearly lots of others don't.

Taking a hat off is a meaningless gesture, BUT in my own opinion it comes firmly under good etiquette and so I do it without fail. If my PP doesn't it's not the end of the world. Life's too short to get annoyed over these little things

I was watching one of Mark Crossfields vids the other day where he played 3 holes with some minor pro from Holland I think. And when they finished they shook hands and the pro took his branded cap off but Crossfield left his on. Kids today I thought.....;)
