As title suggests its seems i cant play golf any more.. i played yesterday and scored 23 points off 15... my playing handicap has slowly creeped up from 14 to 14.6 which didnt bother me!

But i carnt hit a golf ball to save my life worse still during the back 9 yesterday after a modest 16 point on the front 9... i actually was stood over the ball and felt i had no control of where it will land!

I just seem to have forgot how to drive hit approach irons and pitch only saving grace was my chipping and putting! Rather useless when i have already take 4 shot to get to the green!!

Problem being this has occured during my last 3 games?!

Anyone experianced this before and any tips to over come it!? - Think i may visit the pro next week end :(!

If you play golf long enough it's bound to happen to you at some time or other.

Forget the numbers, just go out and play and try to find what you're looking for in your game.

It's in there somewhere and you'll find it again.

Join the club. I have having the same trouble for two years, since a bout of illness.
My solution, if it works, is lessons from a pro plus a programme of workouts which I found on Fitness TV.
It works to the extent that I am hitting my shots a little further but I still have trouble getting on the green.
Hope you have a quicker improvement. Good luck.

Chances are if you had it, but it's now gone walkies, it's probably something relatively minor.

Check your grip and set up, check your backswing, and make sure you finish nicely balanced.

Dont think too much about the actual impact itself, otherwise you'll start bringing more tension into the swing.

Go out and play golf by yourself dont worry about score try to play as many punch shots as you can, with a smooth backswing and acceleration through the ball I am sure it will all come back to you, you cannot become a bad golfer over night.

I played in Homers Ascot day on Wednesday. 18 holes in the morning, couldn't get off the tee. 13 points on the front 9 with two blobs and 4 x one pointers. Holes that have never given me a problem at that course before suddenly became the road hole.
Had dinner and went out for a "fun" 9 in the afternoon, totally different.
This is the most stupid game in the world. Honestly.
You can go out one day and play like God. You can go out the following day and anybody watching you would think you have never picked a club up in your life.
It will come back. It always does.
But unfortunately, it will go again. Guaranteed.
Just when you least expect it.

Wise words from Smiffy. You'll know from here that my game was wretched around March and April time and I was close to giving it up for while. It's not great now by any means but there are signs of improvement. I had 19 going out on Wednesday and 12 coming home with 5 of those on 10 and 11. It can just go. I was hitting rubbish at the range today so I've no expectations playing Pedro in the morning. It might be as bad as today or it might be like last weeks medal (nett 72 +2) with 3 x3 putts and 4 double bogies where I played some decent golf and just made silly mental errors. Stick with it as it's going to come back

It's happened to me too. Get drunk, shout loudly, watch a bit of porn on the laptop and have a week off golf. That's the advice I got from my pro and it seems to have done the trick. Let me know how it goes...

Bad advice.

Watching porn on the laptop tends to lead to shanking.

:( :( ;)

I agree with a lot of what has been said. It will be something small. Golf is a game of mm and it takes very little to go from playing well to playing poorly.

This year has been good for me until the last 2 rounds when my game has deserted me. I was hopeless at Ascot scoring 25 pts but played 9 after dinner and hit the ball loads better scoring 18 pts with a blob. All I did was stand a little taller and my start position felt much better.

Don't try changing too many things as you will end up in an even worse place. As has been said, check the basics and if you can't get it yourself, go for a lesson.

It's a horrible feeling what you're going through, I've been there as I'm sure we all have but it will be something small, you just need to find it. Keep the faith, you'll be back soon.
