Hardest course you have played?

I don't think I'm good enough to rate a course as hard or not but I found the de vere wychwood park near Crewe as a very tuff course. not only was each hole a tuff long trek but the distances between the green and next tee a hike too. if you missed the fairway you were either in water or scrub and I don't think I've ever lost so many balls as I did that weekend .

Nefyn (old) in the wind, how could I forget.

It's on the west coast of Wales. It is right on top of 150 yard cliffs. I played it in 28 mph winds last year. On the 2nd I had to aim 100 yards inland to get on the fairway, an avoid the cliffs. 5-6 holes are on the Lynn peninsula and are great. Check out any pictures of it.

Any seaside course from Berwick to Dornoch and not forgetting Brora will be a stiff test on a windy day and not so easy on a still day. It's all about the weather. It was really windy yesterday and wet so trying to score anything like par was impossible.
Consider all the quality golfers who haved played at Muirfield and the amateur course record is 68 which was set about 3 weeks ago. It had been 69 for about 200 years.
Toughest course I've played would have to be Belffry Brabazon - horrendous rough.

I'd say Royal Lytham closely followed by Southerness.

Lytham was super tough, I think I shot 93 and there was 9 pars and a birdie in that. If you missed a fairway you was knackered simple as that, the rough was a nightmare, it wasn't like getting out of the usual wispy type links heather, it was like barbed wire.

Southerness was just long and tight.
I was scared of taking the driver out, it was similar to holes being carved through a see of gorse,very pretty when in bloom. But a very tough golf course.
I enjoyed it though and would certainly go back.

I felt a little underwhelmed by Royal Lytham though after expecting so much.

Interesting mate, I didn't think lytham was as hard as I expected, but then I didn't go in too many bunkers. Didn't score well but did expect it to be tougher. Agree with you about being underwhelmed though.

Think it depends on the weather. I played whitekirk in east Lothian in a gale and it was incredibly tough. Not sure if it is in normal conditions though.

I'd go along with that, it's so exposed.A brutal test if the wind is up.

I've only played it a couple of times, but Renaissance is a long tough slog with brutal greens.Agree with dornoch and Carnoustie too.

Another one for me is Mortonhall in Edinburgh, I've never played well there.
