As you know the focus of my winter lessons will be trying to get my swing down to a reasonable tempo. I've just picked up a CD from my pro from the tour tempo site. He wants me to start on the slowest tempo (27/9). Basically its a music track with three distinct beats. The first is a trigger to start your swing. The second is to initiate the downswing and the third should be impact.

Off to the range tomorrow night with my I Pod to try it out with a few short irons. He thinks I'll eventually need the next speed 24/8 but wants me to nail the really slow one first. Not sure how it will affect my co-ordination going from something way too fast to something more controlled and rhythmical but thats the first step to a slower more controlled swing.

I dont think i could listen to that and practice at the same time though its worth a try i suppose.

I see a few people down the range with there ipods in so it must help people but personally, i go the range to pratice and try to give a 100% concentraton so listening to music would only distract me i think.

Best of luck though homer.

Is there a reason for going to such a slow tempo from what you say is one that is too fast?

Will you eventually speed up once you can do the slow one?

I reckon the 24/8 ones in the link are about 1.2 from takeaway to impact which I thought was slower than ideal. Just curious.

Everyone swings with a different tempo, Its all about finding your own natural rythm which suits your game.

Good luck with the CD but I would be sceptical.

You have three beats to time your swing to. First beat, you take the club back as fast as possible, and then wait at the top. Second beat you thrash at the ball as hard as possible, and third beat is timed for screaming noooooo as the ball squirts of low and left off the heal.

I think that's how it works.

That sounds pretty dreadful, but what ever works!

I thought it was going to be like a bleep test, just silence with 3 bleeps to allow you to position check your swing, not some crappy music.

There must be some "proper" music that can be adapted to the tour tempo thing instead of using what sounds like hold music on speed!

My current tempo is Happy Hour by The Housemartins. I'm aiming for Is This Love? by Whitesnake.

I'll let you know what difference it makes.

LMAO murph.

I would think you'd be able to do it with normal music, you'd just have to find the right time signature and tempo.

The beeps would be beats 1, 3 and 4 of 4/4 music, and to get 1.2s from 1 to 4 you'd need a tempo of 150bpm I think.

Mr. Brightside by The Killers should do it.

I'll get me coat

Murph is close. The first beat takes the club back. You should just complete the turn when the second beat plays and is the start of the downswing and the 3rd beat should coincide with hitting the thing.

All loaded onto the Ipod and ready for the range tomorrow. I think you can get it as just a series of bleeps from the tour tempo site but I think that would get hugely irritating after a bit. If it doesn't work my pro will just have to find another way of slowing it down

I almost always have my ipod on at the range,as a fan of rock/metal i dont think my swing will be getting any slower, though i am happy with how it feels just now.

Went to the range tonight with the 27/9 tempo tracks loaded. All I can say is wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Admittedly I wasn't hitting more than an 8 iron (it was dark and I struggle with these dodgy old eyes to follow the ball in range lights over about 140 yards). It was really easy to get into the tempo of swinging back on beat one, starting down on beat two and hitting on the third. My swing was much shorter naturally, less moving parts and boy did the ball fly. I wasn't even focussed on any swing thoughts (takeaway, plane etc) but just swinging to the beat. I can't wait to go back tomorrow and start working through the bag to the longer irons and woods.

I was scepticle about hitting to a track and beats but once you get the beat in your head you can just stand there without the I-Pod and swing away. It really seems to work.

What a load of trash that is , have my Ipod on at the range to relieve the boredom of hitting balls ,a necessary evil of playing this game.
