Handicaps -

not sure if interested in the competition side of the game, but may go that route in time to come - currently social and enjoying it at that level whilst working on improving and learning the game.

Will go for the sort of site router suggested to I can monitor my progression and review once moved house and found a club I would like to join,
Comps are the best bit! I don't know what Open prices are near you, but I can play some very nice courses for very little money - eg this year I'm playing Carnoustie championship course for £22, normal price is £140! :)

Hi Heidi,

Can you post some details for that Carnoustie Open - I can't find it on the web or in the wee yellow book? Or is it full already....

Cheers!

It's a funny one, they don't advertise it! I got in with a few friends who have played it before. The draw has been done so it will be full.
Am still gutted about being on the waiting list for north berwick greensomes! I applied months ago!

Bugger - that sounded good! Enjoy.

ooher so much more to this golf thing than hitting a ball with a stick! the mind boggles ....................comps something to aim for - but improving all the time and had a reasonably satisfactory session at the range yesterday left feeling that I am making progress in the right direction and less likely to knock someone one a nearby road or office with my drive and actually getting further in the direction of a flag (not saying which one of course)

People play golf for different reasons, work out what you enjoy and find a suitable club for your present and future needs. I think location is an important one, it was for me as if it's too far away from either work or home I won't bother driving through traffic.

When I was a member I didn't join to play at the golf club as I played cricket and football at weekends, I joined to play in some alliance competitions (like opens but midweek where I was), figured it was cheaper than playing a green fee to play new courses and I'd get to play them at full length and in good condition.

I don't have a handicap now, but play a 9 hole course at very reasonable rates it's quiet; not in the best condition atm but I can get round compelted in good time and it suits my needs. I work an unfriendly shift pattern, don't get many weekends off and when I do golf isn't a priority.
