Handicap rule help please

Hi all bn trying to find congu bit regarding having to play 3 comps in ur home club to maintain active handicap . It think it may well only b in ireland to help stop people joing cheap clubs miles away

The only situation requiring 3 score from the Home club is for the initial handicap allotment.

Maintaining or regaining 'c' status has no such requirement.
 
Thanks for replys i remember discussing it a few yrs ago . . Maybe it never came to pass . We had a few clubs over here offering cheap distance memberships €150_€180.. it took off in a big way but was harming alot of clubs membership figures . There was talk of bringing in rule of having to submit 3 comp cards from ur home club to maintain ur c handicap status . Maybe discussion was as far as it got

Just to pick up on something in your post; I don't understand the relationship between which club you return your Q scores at and membership figures?
If you are a member of more than one club then both are getting remunerated for you playing in line with their pricing structures - so that's completely neutral.
Which club is your home club for handicapping is arguably an administrative aspect only now.
You don't need to return any competition cards at any club to maintain a (c) handicap status, and haven't needed to for some time - although as the biggest factor in the (c) status is Competition entry this is a somewhat moot point!
Anyway, as above I'm confused about how the membership figures are impacted?
 
I'm trying to find my old editions of the CONGU regulations. So far I have found the notes identifying the changes from 2015 to 2016.

The reinstatement of a “c” (competition) status handicap requires a player to submit 3 qualifyingscores (which could be 18 hole competitions, 9-hole competitions, Supplementary Scores, home or away)

The reference to or away implies that previously reinstatement could only be done at home but I am looking for my 2015 manual to check.

Of course in 2015 it was 'active' or inactive'.

2015 clause 25.1 Status of Handicap makes no mention of home or away clubs

Prior to the 2016 I believe that supplementals could only be submitted on your home club course.
 
Hi Duncan . And apologies as i may well b totaly wrong on this
What was/is happening over here is people are joining clubs that are over 75km away for very small fees but never playing in that club, just using it for a gui card and playing away comps . This was hurting many clubs on the membership front ..

The theory behind implementing having to play 3 home competitions was to try discourage people from doing this .. quiet possibly never got by discussion phase . I emailed the GUI today to ask was it true or a myth

Hi Rulefan many thanks for ur reply and taking time to look it up for me . It appears its another 1 for the myth collection . As per my post to Duncan i have emailed the gui to deny or clarify it .
Reason i asked on here is i was looking it up but couldnt find anything

Apologies for misleading original question

So if u dont play 3 home qualifiers in 2018 u cant play any away opens in 2019 . Theory was to stop the guys that joined a club but never played there at all

I bet they have got this wrong!

Firstly any club running an open comp can obviously set their own entry qualification....but I'm prepared to bet that the standard wording will revolve around having an active handicap rather than having played 3 Q compsmatnyour home clubs course (not least because of the issues and hassle of checking that information!).

I haven't cheated - I'm going to research it now, but my money is on the table.

People use 3 Q at home as a shorthand for having an active, or (c) handicap status; and at one time the 2 were synonomous. Currently they arent.

Well I am going to give up!

20 minutes touring the world of Irish golf club open events shows me a world where there are more open events than most English clubs run swindles/roll ups! Some clubs basically run an open comp everyday!

Maybe I'm missing something but given the view I'm seeing I can't see why these clubs would want to limit entry at all - it's semi organised visitor golf.

Could someone point me I the direction of a standard club open comp with entry conditions? Ta.

I play alot of opens and i cant ..

Memory is vague on it but it was something the gui brought in to prevent someone in dublin joining a club in kerry fot €150 and never playing it .
2 clubs known country wide for it
