Hacked off

Just wanted to have a bit of a rant and let off some steam as I just cannot seem to be able to string a decent round together despite improving pretty much every area of my golf.

9 pars, 1 birdie, 4 doubles, 1 treble and 3 bogeys yesterday.

The treble was caused by some stupid cow yelling out her dog's name about 10 foot behind me as I started my downswing. Pushed my ball into a big gorse bush.

Double 1 - two shots in the bunker. Not a difficult shot and I never leave them in. So I left it in.

Double 2 - crap drive, ok second, bad pitch, average chip and 2 putts.

Double 3 - good drive, pushed second into a horrible spot and got too cute trying to get close to the pin rather than plonk it on the green.

Double 4 - fantastic drive (almost got the green), duffed chip into the bunker, out onto the green but left myself a lot to do on a very tough green and 3 stabbed.

Just massively frustrated as I set out thinking really positively and I feel there's a few really good rounds out there and I'm ready to move up a level.

Most of us only play a good round once every four games, you'll be due a good score soon, stick at it.

Sorry for the rant. I was just pretty fed up and a bit despondent. Just looking at what I wrote, I can see that I need to spend some time in the bunker and on the chipping green again.

My mental side needs to improve as I hit a lot of good shots there and only three stabbed once (after a run of some poor putting) so there's lots of positives to take from the round too.

I was at a wedding this weekend so there wasn't any golf and feel a bit refreshed after a break from it.

Onwards and upwards!

I feel your pain. My latest blog (No fun) sums up my mood. I'm getting to a catch 22 position now. I'm not enjoying my golf because I'm not playing well. I don't want to take another break having just come back from an enforced lay off as I still want to be involved. I can't find the problem at the range. I don't want a lesson (I get accused of practicing and taking way too many lessons anyway) and for the first time that I can remember I didn't even bother playing the stableford today.

If I go out to just try and enjoy it I still get fed up as its so inconsistant that it becomes a slog (and probably not much fun for my partners) and so the circle starts again

had an enforced lay-off through work, weather and being ill and seem to have forgotten what a clubs for. Tee to green was diabolical, I could have chucked the lot in the lake if it weren't for the putter - best day I've ever had, 31 putts (and that included three 3-putts!)
