Is a drop from GUR compulsory or optional? Is this down the the discretion of the committee at the course where GUR is marked?
Example, ball was in GUR, where the player had a normal shot and he could have played it albeit from a rather bad lie, his nearest point of relief was leaving him in an unplayable position. Can he play the ball from the GUR or must he take a free drop into the unplayable position?
What should be the Course of action??

GUR is normally optional to play it as it lies or drop.
Sometimes there will be an additional sign 'play prohibited' which obviously means you must drop.

In addition, if the GUR is designated 'Play Prohibited' and the drop options are 'not very nice', then normally one or more Drop Zones will be available.
