I went up the course for a quick knock today.
It was difficult to get a feel for the club as I was wearing a few layers & my fingers were cold.
Anyway, as I warmed up I started to experiment with my grip, I started hitting shots with just enough grip to stop the club flying out of my hands, blimey!!! what a difference.

The ball contact was better & the shots were mostly straight, as I experimented further I found that even though I tried to grip lightly at address, my grip pressure automatically increased as I took the club back causing my forearm muscles to tighten, once I figured this out I started to deliberately loosen my grip as I took the club away & my shots improved as a result.

I wasn't there long enough today to play many holes, but I reckon it's something to work on for my next practice session.

Loose arms and wrists will help to create good clubhead speed. Try to keep the arms as loose as your grip and you will feel that you can make powerful hits.

Something thats always stuck with me was when Monty said on tv once to hold a club like you hold tube of toothpaste (without the toothpaste coming out obviously).

will give this a go at the range tomoro. i dont really pay to much heed to grip pressure. too many other things to think about atm.

it will work for some folk but not others,it's worth a try just to see.

i haven't paid much attention to my grip pressure since taking it back up but iirc i always struggled with squaring the clubface back up at impact and when you are faced with a shot from the rough you may find it hard to make good contact with a light grip.

I don't buy into it personally. Out of 10 I'd say my grip pressure is a 5, I'd describe it as firm but not squeezing.

I'm with james on his one. It was pointed out to me once that you dont see Tiger Woods hold any club lightly and I have, at times in my game, held it too light and felt like it led to overswings and other nasties. Firm, but not tight, is where I like to be!
