Greenkeepers Q and A

yea, most proper courses do their club champs , Open etc in June/early July, a bit of maintainance in early August then get a few more Opens/Trophy matches in Sept.

i can see we have summer maintainence scheduled on 10/11/12 August, with the next comp not until 22 August

You also have to flexible with the weather in the UK, it feels up North as if our season is being extended in to Oct/Nov and not really getting going until late Apr/May.

A few years back it was always end Mar/early Apr till mid Sept.

The Greenkeepers are kept on their toes and the good ones are worth looking after.

I suspect what it means it’s for a week greens won’t be at their best and members understand

For us to do it quickly we spread it over 2 days - 9 holes one day and 9 holes the next day

So for two days the course is 9 holes only

Like your place, my course only closes for a couple of days, but it then takes about 4 weeks for the greens to fully recover. For the first 2 weeks the course looks like a beach, I suppose it is holiday season 🏖️

Thankfully we have about ten days of pain and it seems to recover pretty well

Just need to throw a lot of water on and have the heat to get the growth
