Great

Well the snow is here. Up to 30cms promised overnight so thats golf and the range knackered for the next few days. Bloody typical. I worked ont he stuff from my lesson yesterday earlier at the range and even if I say so myself was hitting it great. Looking forward to getting out and playing and then mother nature kicks me in the meat and two veg

Finally its arrived down south no golf for a while.

Has it? I would never have known! :D It has been snowing like this for nearly 3 weeks solid up here but only makes headline news when the soft sufferners get some of the white stuff!

Had to laugh this morning when a sensationalising reporter was stood telling us how bad a certain motorway was while the camera focussed on a dual carraigeway which was completely free of snow!! :D

It's embarrassing!!! We've had an inch - two at best and the whole world stops!!!

Can someone explain to me how they can get two trains an hour to run but not the full service??? Surely, if they can get two out then they can get them all out???

Also, how do Russia, Canada, etc cope when they get six foot of the damn stuff!!! Do they simply shut down from October until April???

Still, sat at home in the warmth watching the cricket - I love the snow...... :o

I'm still supposed to be playing tomorrow - it's not cancelled unless we can't see the ground.

well, a few of us turned up - no snow but still cancelled because it was forecast (woofters!). we went out anyway, didn't start snowing until the 17th and it was only the 18th where we were bothered by it - fortunately a couple of orange balls helped us find them.

i guess it`s to do with how many of the staff can actually get in to work in the first place? Same with the schools, can`t open without the teachers to staff them.

I actually got an answer to my question last night on the news - they didn't want to run a full service because then, if the conditions deteriorate and they can't run a full service later in the day, they've stranded loads of people. Still not happy though.......

I heard this morning that no trains were running because all the wheels are frozen to the tracks.
What a load of crap.
Start the engine, rev the nuts off of it and then quickly dump the clutch.
Simples.

Our course still has about an inch of snow all over it (although nowhere near as much as other parts of the country), but I received an email from them this morning.....

Although the course is under an inch of snow, for those of you who have a tee time booked Sat 9th or Sun 10th,we are running a fun 9 hole competition. If you have not got a tee time, if you come down we will probably fit you in. Simply pay a £2.00 entrance fee in the pro shop and follow the rules below. All entrance fee money will be returned in prizes to spend at the golf centre (Beer tokens, carvery vouchers, range tokens etc.) You play at the time you have already booked. If you have a tee booked but do not intend using it, please cancel your time to enable others who may want to play have a go. The course will be under an inch of snow, but this is purely for fun !

Snow Golf – not No Golf – 9 Hole Fun Competition

As the snow and ice look set for a while yet, we are opening the front 9 holes, and running fun competitions this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

Format:- Full Handicap Medal (1/2 of your strokes received for the 9 holes)

Red Tees

Get the ball in the cleared circle around the hole. (Not in the hole)

Mark your card with the number of shots taken to achieve this.

Rules

No chipping on greens. Only putters, drivers and woods/rescue clubs allowed on greens.

The ball has to have stopped on the cleared area for the hole to be complete. (If the ball hits the cleared area and bounces/skids off the ball is still in play)

Placing all over. You can clear the snow before you hit each shot from the fairway but not on the green.

If your ball is deemed lost, take stroke and distance penalty – you do not have to go back to where you hit the ball.

The winners are the lowest net scores.

What you need.

A bright yellow or other coloured ball.

£2.00 entrance fee ( All fees given back as prizes to the winners e.g Beer vouchers, Carvery vouchers, Range Tokens )

Warm clothes.

Hopefully see you at the weekend.

Interesting bit on news last night where it seems central\local government staff just have to 'try' to get in and get paid - private sector: no work no pay

What does 'try' to get in represent?? Opening the front door, putting one foot on the snow, phoning up stating conditions are 'treacherous', sitting on the sofa for the rest of the day watching Jeremy Kyle and Loose women!! It would appear that train drivers and nursery staff adopt this 'try' procedure!!
