Great form & ESR

Hopefully a simple question – at what point does ESR (if it even does) kick in for results that (for one reason or another) aren’t qualifiers?

Consider this record for an unnamed player: last 16 comps, 1 declared void after the event, so really only 15 competitions, with none actually counting as a qualifier (the one declared void bizarrely was a qualifier). Finished either winner (7 times) or runner up (5 times), with the other results being 9[SUP]th[/SUP], 11[SUP]th[/SUP] and 28[SUP]th. [/SUP] Includes a 50 pts, 49pts, 48pts a few 46ers and 45s. A rich vein of form that I imagine will continue when the qualifiers actually start…… still, as there are no CSS for these comps, I assume there’s nothing to assess a cut against?

I’m just wondering, because even if the unnamed player just got really good (and wouldn’t I love that to be me!) they are now playing way in excess of their ability – again, wouldn’t I love that to be me!

not sure this is an ESR question but more a case of an exceptional general play reduction where it is clear to the handicap committee that his handicap does not reflect his playing ability

ESR kicks in at 4 better than CSS I believe, so any of those 40+ pointers would have done it. Except they aren't Qs, so it should be the handicap committee slashing this particular handicap to pieces. My question is, with all of these rounds, why has he not played any Qs?!

I'm not 100% sure how it works, but I had a few last year, I was told it was if you beat your handicap 3 times in a row (buffer keeps it rolling over to the next competition it would seem), but that doesn't seem to be correct from the below.

It's every time you were 4 better than CSS. It is activated the first time you do it but nothing is taken off. The next time you do it the ESR is applied, and how much is applied is to do with how many rounds have been between the last time you did that.

Thanks Fundy, an exceptional general play would certainly be justified, is there any reason the handicap comm would not apply this given the results?

ESR kicks in at 4 better than CSS I believe, so any of those 40+ pointers would have done it. Except they aren't Qs, so it should be the handicap committee slashing this particular handicap to pieces. My question is, with all of these rounds, why has he not played any Qs?!

Course condition and the fact it is wet - the ball getting plugged so with the exception of the voided comp it has been lift, clean and place through the green.

It's every time you were 4 better than CSS. It is activated the first time you do it but nothing is taken off. The next time you do it the ESR is applied, and how much is applied is to do with how many rounds have been between the last time you did that.

So with no CSS, it's basically irrelevant unless there's an exceptional general play cut as Fundy suggests.

NorwichBanana - from 20 to 7/8 in 6 months!? Exceptional play, well done!

The question I would be asking is why has the club had so many non qualifiers?

In answer to the question non of the comps can be used directly for handicap purposes.

If these were in Club non-qualifiers and recently took place, ie. Winter, why does it matter, surely he’ll now be playing qualifiers and his handicap will drop accordingly.
Maybe he’s worked really hard over the winter.
