Great alignment tip

As a moderately high handicapper I have always struggled with alignment. Hitting a shot and then realizing I was aiming right of my target etc. After reading Bob Rotella's 'Golf is Not a Game of Perfect' this has helped me significantly. In the book he tells when you're picking a target literally pick an exact target, down the millimeter. Aim for that. don't aim for the green aim for an exact part of the green. This tip has made my shots so much more accurate. Please try it and get back to me. Happy Golfing.

Very good tip, Rotella's books are great, and if you haven't already I would suggest getting the rest of them and giving them a read, esp Putting out of your Mind, its fantastic.

I've always struggled with mental part of my game and cannot agree with you more. They also come in audio books which are practical.

Not on the back of Bob Rotella, but i've started doing this too. I used to just aim mindlessly down the middle of the fairway with no particular point in mind, now I take a second and pick a specific tree/landmark/divot as a line to aim down and my shots are much more accurate now I'm taking care over my aim. Common sense really but the results are far better!

If you struggle with alignment another good tip is pick a point a few feet in front of the ball on the target line (ok everyone knows that), then take your grip with your left hand only, place the clubhead behind the ball pointing at that point you've selected, now place you right foot down parallel with the clubhead. It doesn't need to be where you will take you stance, but getting the right foot parallel to the clubhead (and hence perpendicular to the target line) makes it much easier to align your left foot to your right, setting you up square. I always aimed right (still do on occasion) but this has helped in a big way. If you're interested in the mental game Patrick Cohn is seriously worth a read.

I also find it extremely important to focus on proper alignment while hitting balls at the driving range. If you don't, it's so easy to lose concentration and end up thrashing the balls anywhere and everywhere with no particular target in mind.
