Im due to buy some new irons and it was suggested to me to try graphite shafts in my irons and I was wondering what your opinions on them were as Im of the opinion that they are for old folk and women . My mate uses them and he hits them well and raves about them but im not so sure

Graphite technology is moving fast with irons, it used to be as you say for ladies or seniors really, but iirc there are a few tour players paying graphite chatted irons now. As per pin seeker, try as many as you can and choose the best, whether that be steel or graphite.

I had a go with a new shaft from Exsar when I was visiting my father in law. IS Proto was all that was on it, it was a stiff shaft and unlike any floppy so called stiff graphite shafts this was as good as any steel shaft I have tried. Only problem for me was the weight, at 79g it was very very light.
F-i-L also reckoned it would run me about a grand for the shafts alone  good reason to stick to my FCMs.

I don't personally feel they are just for old people. I am in the swing speed bracket where they would help me a little.

However, in reality, when I've tried sets of graphite irons, only 1 thing has ever happened....a little more distance.

Do I want my "new" PW to go the distance of the 9 iron in my existing set? Not really....that's just numbers on the sole of the club.
Would I buy them if I hit them straighter and sweeter? Too right....

I nearly bought irons last week with project x 6.0 graphite shafts in them. I like the idea of them. Apparently the 6s play the exact same flex to the steel version which i am playing just now but they are around 25grams lighter.

I thought if i played a lighter shaft it might mage me swing a bit smoother and not lash at it from time to time

I was custom fitted for steelfiber. These are steeel/graphite and offer the best of both worlds.Have a look her for more info http://www.aerotechgolfshafts.com/irons.php. I'm really please with my shafts.

Rather pricey though!

I've hit some I95s - that were too stiff for me - that felt Ok, but nothing super-duper special.

Quite a few of the top Pros use them (Snedecker is one) but doesn't mean they are right for me!

Light shafts don't suit my (erratic) swing either!
