Graphite or steel?

My concern would be hitting irons is different from woods ie off the tee or a sweeping motion where irons as usual your hitting the ground more often taking divots and are they as strong as steel ?

afaik Graphite torque ratings are around 3.5-5.5 and steel is around 0.8, this might be for woods and possibly differs for irons, would be useful to know more if you have the info to hand?

Bollox DV
3.5-5.5 Graphite -- would be CRAP, there be some out there, but not decent quality
I currently Play these

0.8 Steel.......PLEASE tell me which Steel shafts these are.........??
True Temper Dynamic Gold
R300 -- 1.9 Torque , 127 grams
S300 -- 1.7 Torque , 130 grams
X100 -- 1.5 Torque , 130 grams

So an X100 has 1.5 Torque......PLEASE tell me which steel shaft has 0.8 Torque, ''would be useful to know more info if you have the info to hand ? ''

There are 2 ( main ) reasons why Most golfers dont play, or havent tried , graphite shafts
Immediately put off by Price differential to steel
Or the 'stigma' of playing Ladies / Old Mens clubs

The 1st is understandable -- everybody has a budget
The 2nd is B S -- joe average out there would probably improve their game by switching

Obviously Im NO talking about everybody, some players, simply could not get a Graphite Iron shaft to suit
But anybody without, an above average swing speed, could benefit

That shouldn't be an issue. As stated above, people choose graphite mainly for one of two reasons - either they need lighter shafts, or they need more impact absorption for dodgy wrists or elbows.

I would say stronger.
After trying to get out of a rain sodden bunker at Woodhall Spa for the 3rd time on Sunday I threw my 7 iron towards my trolley in disgust. It was quite a hard throw too!
It bounced off and remained unmarked. I have no doubt that a steel shaft would have bent.
So there you have it. Proof if proof were needed.

Mind you, when they do go, they go with a right old bang!
I accidently swung my 3 wood into a chain link fence once. Bloody noise was frightening.
The head of the club went spiralling over a nearby tree and the shaft (or what was left of it) looked like a palm tree.

Oh Dear:rolleyes:

I did say afaik and my driver is certainly 4.5 torque and the current driver shafts I tried were all around the 3.5-3.8 mark- just saying what the fitters told me.
I also said it might be different for woods as opposed to irons, but I know nothing of this and only passed on what I've read. Thanks for discussing it in a nice manner though:whistle:

U cast out.......u gota bite....
As the OP was referring to Irons, I believed thats what u were referring to......??
And obviously thought u quoting relevant iron shaft figures, thinking u had some knowledge on the subject..........??
Can hardly compare Driver Graphites to Iron steels, as u believe u were
Still like to know which shaft has 0.8 torque......
Must belong to Quiros ;)

Cos I doubt Id get very far with it........:D

I think Wilson do Half and Half shafts, one half steel one graphite (not sure which end is steel). Quite why anyone would need that I have no idea.

I guess you get a stiff end and a whippy tip or something like that.

I've got the Wilson D-FY irons and have found them very useful after suffering from a back injury last year. I've got good control and plenty of whip when I decide to wind one up. I'm guessing they are aimed at either the senior player looking for a stop gap to senior graphite shafts, or for beginners who just want to hit long.

I would say for anyone looking for a set that offers control of an iron and distance from a graphite then these are a happy medium. As my back is on the mend I'm looking to upgrade to full steel as distance is no longer an issue, would consider offers :)
