got annoyed today..

i have been hit by balls at least 4 times over the years and it ain't nice but a dam site better than having a broken nose and jaw like the chap who did it to me at NORTH WALES GC last year, hit square in the back no shout then moaned when i hit it into the sea, nice straight right soon shut him up.

Says the guy who moans about chavs playing his super duper posh course.

Think you'd fit in quite nicely with that attitude.

The same thing happened to me a while back, we (in a 2 ball) were being held up by a brutal 4 ball ahead of us who refused to look behind them, the 2 ball behind us nearly hit us on the fairway as we waited to make our approaches, they shouted fore but shouldn't have driven. They were on the tee so all I could do was the "throw the hands up in the air" movement back at them. A couple of holes later I'm on the green and a ball fizzes past me, would have done serious damaged if it hit and wasn't far off, the tee shot is unsighted so no shout but they had to know we were there. I was fuming and waited on the green for them, the guy immediately apologised saying this was his first time playing the course and his buddy showed him the line and he hit it, didn't think he'd make the green. Its a short hole and hes obviously a big hitter, but as mad as I was you have to accept that apology as it was obviously genuine, I said we're being held up too just give us a bit more room eh? That's how these things should be settled, anyone who thinks it's by clocking someone has no place on a golf course, I can only hope he's made this story up to make himself look big when the result is actually the polar opposite.

i think it was the red mist!!!! as you stated you had to wait on every tee box so you were getting more annoyed and couldn't wait and the old " i will knock one down there to speed them up" thought entered your head, been there plenty of times but never done it,i have been hit by balls at least 4 times over the years and it ain't nice but a dam site better than having a broken nose and jaw like the chap who did it to me at NORTH WALES GC last year, hit square in the back no shout then moaned when i hit it into the sea, nice straight right soon shut him up.

You sound like a great guy.Or a thug,a bully and total flange.

I hope the poor guy you hit reported you to the club and the police.

so you have been hit square in the back by a golf ball, the perpetrator hasn't shouted and moans when i hit his ball into ob,what should i have done ,A- SHOOK HIS HAND AND THANKED HIM,B-GAVE HIM A BRAND NEW PROV1,C-SAID NOTHING ,DONE NOTHING AND LET IT GO,D-DECKED HIM,answers on a post card please.

after already hitting his ball OB? nothing just walk on your work is done.

if you hadnt already knocked his golf ball off the course i would have waited, told him not to worry about it, not to let it ruin his round, and just to make sure he doesnt hit it near you again the rest of the way round!

Its usually the last thing anyone wants when playing golf, I know id rather be hit with a ball(obviously nothing fatal) than hit someone with a ball.

Look at it from their point of view, you've already pulled one in their direction at the 10th and shouted fore - fair enough, happens to everyone.

But then on the 15th as they are putting out a ball rolls over the green. That to me would signal complete disregard from the hitter. Wayward shots are one thing, but going for a green with people on it is out of order.

You say the closest you'd ever come was 20 yards short of the green, well that to me is too close a margin of error on a 300 yard shot. A nudge of wind or one flush out of the middle would be all it takes to send it past there.

If you wanted to take them out of play you could have hit a wood, or if you know your driver is going to be there or there about then just wait for them to clear the green.

Perhaps E. DECIDED GOLF WAS NOT THE GAME FOR ME!

If I had been that guy behind you. I would have made sure, your next round would have been after a stay, at her Majesties pleasure.

Jp, I had no intention of going for the green, please read my
previous posts before commenting.

It doesn't matter whether you intended gong for the green or not. You had a bash knowing people were on there and it wasn't beyond the realms of possibility that you hit the green.

I think you have stated previously that it annoys/puts you off when a ball lands 20 yards away but you think it is ok to do it to someone else?

I don't think I have Chris.
Based on the circumstances at the time and as previously stated having played the hole hundreds of times and not getting to the green, green I drove off, yes perhaps I could have waited till the green cleared, however why would I when I truly believed it was beyond comprehension to reach. I have stated I realise I errd and attempted to make it right.
Perhaps if some folk would care to join me for a round they will get a better understanding of the shot and of my distances and realise why I played when u did.
We do have a genuinly drivable par 4, its the second hole, I hit 3 iron because I know I can reach it, I could gave waited til the green cleared and went for it, but I don't like to hold up play and possibly make a hash so I played a shot I know wouldn't reach, this is what I believed when I teed up on 15. I know realise other wise, so can play accordingly, but at the time I didn't.

I had a ball drop out of the skies at a fair rate of knots, heard no Fore or saw anyone around. It landed about 6 feet from me and made me jump.

Turns out it was a 4 handicapper playing the adjacent hole, the wind was so strong and his slightly balloning/faded drive held up and turned right over, stalled and dropped out the sky just 200 yards off the tee. They apparently screamed fore but the wind was so strong we could not hear them.

I accepted their apology as the conditions had played a huge part.

I always accept apologies, as long as the person learns to shout if they have not done then all is well.
