Hello forum pals! Last Sunday I finally got the chance to test out my new swing and grip change on Lethamhill muni in Glasgow, and the results were good.My slice has completely gone, and my driving has suddenly got straighter and further. My bad shot is now a mild hook, and my accuracy with the driver has improved a great deal.My long irons were solid, and I hit the green a few times with my 8 iron. The contrast with my last session at the range was startling! My only big problem is that I am now useless with my 3 wood and 3 hybrid.I am in sore need of a reliable club between my driver and 4 iron(probably 2!),I can hit my 4 iron a good 190 yards, and my driver to about 230 at the moment.Do you think I should be happy using my driver and 4 iron without tempting fate hitting anything in-between,or will the gap in range really hurt my game until i get the wood/hybrid sorted? Consistency is the focus of my game at the moment, but I worry these clubs I cant hit well will leave harder approach shots. All advice appreciated, cheers! ;)

Get down the range with the 3 wood and 3 hybrid you have. Work the new swing into hitting these clubs. It will come... Be patient and work hard and rewards will come in the end.

Good luck! :)

Good try Smiffy, but alas my funds are low! As for what changes i made,i slow everything down and focus on a good tempo and loose hands. My feet move better,my right leg does not straighten, and my backswing is now steeper.Think a good session at the range with 3 wood and hybrid is in order! Cheers ;)

Sounds good - you'll have much more control and freer movement, you could also check that your jaw doesnt clench just before you move. I see a lot of players do this and it tightens them up.

Keep up the good work

Cheers Steve, advice taken on board,no one else got any nuggets?

My daughter's guinea pig is called Nugget if that helps.

I haven't tried using a driver on him, but tbh he's a bit fat to hole out with.

If I were in your position, I'd concentrate on the hybrid for the time being, that'll give you the 200 yard shot.

Once you've got that club working for you, the 3w will groove in relatively quickly.

Then it's down to course management for those long par 4s and the par 5s. Work back from the green to your 80 or 100 yard pitch to see what iron you want to use, and you'll hardly ever need your 3w off the fairway.

EG a 520 yard par 5. 230 drive leaves 290. To leave a full ( 100 yard ) pw, you need to hit a 4i. If you go for it with your 3w and catch it perfect, you'll only need a nice 56* sw. But a mishit will leave you in the scrag with a good chance of a dropped shot. Is the risk/reward ratio worth the gamble ?
