Good local pro websites / social media

Hello all,

Long time viewer and first time poster!

I am doing a marketing degree at university and am doing a project around the marketing of local pros against the big boys. To help me with this, do any of you have any suggestions on local pros who have a great website or do social media well? It would hugely help my research.

Mark Crossfield is another one to look at. Gone from local teaching pro to travelling to major events on invites to interview the big boys etc. A real example of how social media can elevate you or your business. He is now courted by mfrs and tournament organisers.
 
Shields / Finch I really enjoy watching and have launched a career from themselves after highlighting a gap in the market

same can be said for crossfields (not personally a fan of all his videos but do watch from time to time)

I also enjoy me and my golf tv, but personally I think I enjoy watching them play matches vs each others channels its quite fun to watch
 
Me & My Golf TV are good examples.

Not a UK pro, but Monte Scheinblum is another one to look at in the US. And Shawn Clement in Canada. Monte is a former long driver champion turned coach. I first came across him dishing out his advice on Golf WRX and doing YouTube videos. Shawn Clement is one of the most popular youtube video coaches. They sell instructional DVDs, don't know if they still do. Possibly a slightly different model to Crossfield etc.

When you say big names, I presume you mean coaches such as David Leadbetter, Sean Foley and Butch Harmon and former tour players etc.?
 
Good question. Who are the big boys?

My immdeiate thoughts were shiels and co as masters of marketing over your normal range teaching pro.

So I am looking at this from two angles really:
1. The teaching / advice pro
2. The pro who is a successful retailer

If I look at option 1, your big boys would typically be the Me and My Golf boys / Mark Crossfield, who love or hate them, seem to have a really strong following and release useful content on a regular basis.

Option 2, the big boys are a lot easier to determine and would typically be your American Golf's of the world.

I dont understand the comparison youre trying to draw. How are the offerings of Mark Crossfield etc and American Golf related?

EDIT: I've re-read and I think I understand, you're comparing the offering of the local pros (i.e. your average club pro) in two areas: teaching and product sales against the big boys in those areas.

My Pro has no website, rarely does anything on social media to market himself and yet has a shop full to the gunnels of merchandise, but the only people that know this are the membership and visitors!

Unfortunately many club pros are not business people and if it wasn't for their retainers and free facilities, they'd be lucky to have 1 star in McDonalds.

Some pros are proactive and use everything available around them to market themselves, others expect the membership, a captive audience in the hundreds to be loyal to them whilst blaming everyone, the big boys that is for failing sales, and yet these pros have very little costs so margins should be easy to attain!

You get out what you put in, like everything in life and club pros are no different, people buy off people in the main or coldly by price alone, people go on about supporting the pro because your a member of the club, but the pro is essentially an independent to the club so your not investing in it, only him!

I do buy from my pro as he will price match but I don't buy exclusively from him and use online and corporate stores also, mainly to touch & feel choice of products I may be in the marketplace to invest.
