Today started well since I was not needed at work so I was home by 11.30 and the course was open.
It was the first time that I was able to get out on the course since the start of December and frankly, I was getting fed up of hitting balls on the range. I played on my own as I wanted to try out my new irons (cf Mizuno MX-300) and also this was the first chance that I have had to try out the Callaway Tour iS and iZ balls.
The day went very well. I have only been playing since September and up until now my best score around my home course has been 106. Well, taking the best ball score on each hole I scored 82. What is more heartening though is that the worst ball score was 94 which is still 12 shots better than my previous best. I'll settle for the average at 88!
As far as the balls go, the iZ was slightly longer by about 5yds and sounded slightly better off the face. It was impossible to evaluate any claims regarding spin as the greens were too soft to tell. As others have said, they did mark quite badly and also have a strange affinity for trees.
Verdict for the day - the irons are lovely but I'm not going to rush out and buy more of these balls.
