Good course near Heathrow?

Gentlemen of the forum, myself and a colleague are attending a course at Heathrow on 6/7 October as a result our boss has been very generous and given us permission to travel down on Wednesday 5th. Being resourceful and always keen to play we would welcome some advice as to where is a good place to play within easy reach of Heathrow bearing in mind we will travel down M40.
We don't want to spend too much so £50 would be max green fee but we would appreciate advice from locals.

Not much use but stayed in heathrow last weekend and passed a course on the tube into London just off the a4, sorry but not worked out what it was yet!

There's a course called 'AirLinks' which sits beside the M4 and under the Heathrow flight path.

That's not the best endorsement but I've played it a few times and it's a good test and very reasonably priced.

Oct means evenings/afternoons drawing in, so it's a function of when you'll be teeing off
But it might mean a short course will be a good idea

I won't be around but you could do worse than try Hennerton GC which is just off the A4 east of Reading and above the road to Henley (so you come off the M40 at Watlington and head for Nettlebed, Henley and Wargrave.
Woudl be a 20 tio 30 min drive to Heathrow as long as you dont hit rush hour.

Hennerton is short (very) but extremely pretty, very hilly, and good fun.
Likely to be quiet mid week
Green fees cheap as chips

That's Wyke Green. Known affectionately to the locals as "Planes, Trains and Automobiles".

It's OK but better than Airlinks which is a council muni track. But even that's better than Stockley Park/Pines. Then again, runway 18W has more grass on it than Stockley.

Is it? I thought AirLinks was part of the David Lloyd fitness centre which is attached? The membership seems to indicate that.....

Thorny park is close, but rubbish, richings park is a bit better, but only after the first 5 holes.

How close do you want to Heathrow? Foxhills at Chertsey, or Denham golf Club. Not sure of the green fees, but nice courses.

Within 30 minutes drive preferably west side.

Denham, The Buckinghamshire, Harefield and Gerrards Cross, all close to junction 1 of the M40.

Burnham Beeches Golf Club is 15-20 mins away, great track, £50 for visitors.

Harefield has been cut to 13 holes due to land fill, and is now mostly a dump. Avoid.

Burnham Beeches is lovely, but a bit of a git to get to, loads of narrow lanes.

The Buckinghamshire is lovely, but not cheap.

Gerrards Cross or Beaconsfield are crackers, but again, not sure on green fees.

Many people like Denham, personally, I'm not a fan. Some good holes, but too many poor ones. Not sure about cost either, but I don't think it's cheap.

Ruislip is a muni, and is flat and boring. haven't played it for 20 years.

Pinner hill is quirky, but ok except the last two holes.

Northwood is to be avoided. Way to packed in on the front nine, and your clubs will get stolen.

Great for the 1st 6 holes but as soon as you get over the road it's a bit naff until you get to 17. In my opinion of course.

So far I would play Ritchings Park. It is very close to LHR, and is ok. Green fee around £25. First few holes are bland, but it gets better once you get round the back, where the lakes are.

I played Ruislip a fair few times about 10 years ago. Not that exciting really. Uxbridge was nice tho.

Ealing is quite a nice track, its situated right next to the A40 and expect the green fee should be within your price range

Whatever yo do, don't play Brent Valley, truly awful place
