Hi all,

Looking at going away around October/November for a weeks golf in the sun with the girlfriend. Do not want to spend a fortune but would still like to play some good quality courses. DOes anyone have any good tips where to go or of a company that can sort it out for you at a good price?

Depends if you want to pay for guaranteed weather, if you do then you're going to have to go further afield than europe. Early/mid October you should be OK in southern Europe, lot of people (our own Smiffy included) rate Belek in Turkey very highly and it should be a bit hotter than say Spain/Portugal.

As for who to book with, yourgolftravel seem to be decent

The price of the dollar means that Florida is probably still worth a look, and there's loads to do besides golf. If you prefer short-haul, then Turkey is probably reasonably-priced, or you could try the Canaries, although you won't get great courses. Cape Town has some fantastic courses and the weather would be superb late October onwards (although it can be breezy).

Yourgolftravel or golfbreaks aren't bad.

Smiffy posted this about Turkey on another forum:

We are staying at the Voyage Belek Golf and Spa Hotel which is supposed to be the mutts nutts. All inclusive with transfers to and from the hotel and to all of the golf courses.

Holiday cost itself was £718.00, but the flights were on top of that and were quite pricey at £280.00. So the whole week for just on a grand. Sound expensive, but when I used to go to the Algarve we would rent a villa and sort out our green fees seperately, booking up well in advance. Add the cost of hire cars, meals and drinks in the evenings and I guess it wouldn't have worked out a lot cheaper than a grand 10 years ago.

Well had a fantastic week. For anyone "dithering" on going to Turkey, just do it! The hotel we stayed in (Voyage, Belek) was absolutely 1st class. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, food was exceptional and plenty to do. Didn't venture out in the evenings as we had a never empty beerglass at the hotel!

The courses were superb, The Montgomerie course was good, only thing that spoiled it for me were the amount of "waste" areas that were just sand. You could ground your club in them but anywhere off of most fairways saw you playing from them. The Carya was absolutetly spot on. A nice mix of long and short par 4's and all the par 3's were excellent. My personal favourite.

The National was in exceptional condition, but bloody tough. Most probably the toughest of the lot (which was reflected in the low scoring that day) and if I had to leave one off of the itinerary for next year it would most probably be this one. Really tight fairways, too tight sometimes. Best left to the pro's!

The Sultan was lovely. Really nice condition and again, a good mix of long and short par 4's which you had a reasonable chance of scoring well. Our final day was spent playing the Faldo course, played the Queen and King 9's. My second favourite (after Carya) and most probably the best manicured of the lot (although all the courses were in exceptional condition). They are holding the Turkish Amateur Championships over this course during the next week so maybe it was looking especially nice because of this, but there wasn't a blade of grass out of place. The greens were a little slower around here, maybe they were protecting them a little, but they were still nippy enough and in great condition. Would I go back??? You bet. The hotel was most probably one of the best I have ever stayed in and the courses knock Portugal into a cocked hat. Just need to start saving now.
