Our club has the local rule-single players have no standing on the course. Which is poor in my opinion.

I can't believe they didn't offer you through,sounds like they were just being awkward.

The etiquette guidelines still allow for a club's committee to determine the priority of play so they can keep the rule if they want. Thankfully the members apply common sense and anytime I've been out myself I've been allowed through if the group in front is slower and playing a social game.
