Golfer’s APP… What do you think?

Hey, I have started creating a Golfer’s App (not a game) for mobile devices and just wanted to see what you all think, after all it is for you guys!!

It’s designed to let any user read or post reviews about:
Golf Courses and Driving Ranges
Stores
Golfing Equipment, and
Tournaments

You will be able to “tag” the golf course / store location etc. you are at and then give it a rating (i.e. 5 stars), write a review and also if it is a course you can give it a difficulty rating so others know how hard the course is.

I have also put a map function in where you can see all the courses, golf stores etc. close to your location then you just click on the pin and it will show you the overall rating, latest reviews etc.

I’m currently trying to incorporate a function where you can add your own event, say when and where the event will happen and allow for contact information to be added for other people to see then they can register for the event. So you could set up a game with people of similar handicap or form a group to go to a tournament to spectate together…

Well, I’d be real interested in what you all think… any advice and ideas for improvement or additional features would be greatly appreciated and hopefully I can get it up and running soon!!

Like the sound of this. Would need some serious advertising to get enough people to download it. And would it be available on multiple devices so you can get in touch with someone who has a blackberry if you have an iPhone?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm hoping to get a few more marketing partners to get the word out but I'm also hoping the app is liked by you guys (which I'm sure it will be haha) enough that you would like others to use it so you can help me spread the word. Because the app has been created to make it easier to connect with other golfers I am hoping that people will share the news of it.

I am most likely launching it on iOS first but due to the way it is created it is an easy adjustment to make it Android accessible so I'm sure this will closely follow.

Thanks for your support and I'll keep you informed of how it goes! If you have any ideas let me know so I can try get them onboard before the launch...

I rarely bother reading reviews, I've read some great stuff that turned out to be rubbish and vice-versa. Then there's the whole honesty thing as one course will be saying the other one nearby is rubbish.... not for me. An app for golf courses that offer a super special rates for 4-balls or something like that would be cool... in my opinion of course.

Obviously, the reviews that Joe Public gives a shop or course will be very subjective and there's always the potential that courses will get members to "big them up", that written though, I like the sound of the app, given the right exposure and the accessibility over the various platforms I'm sure it will be a success.

Though, success will be determined upon cost of the app, if it has to have adverts to recover costs, people might forgive the adverts if it's free, if it costs 69p or £1.99 or whatever, then it's going to have to deliver on all the content mentioned above and be ad free, it'll also have to have a good deal of development to keep it fresh and up to date with new versions and updates.

Good luck with the adventure, I look forward to reading in here that the app is ready.

Don't forget little old ireland . I like the idea though and if user base if high enough reviews would become more balanced and accurate.

Hey thanks for the feedback guys. JustOne, Khamelion and plaindromicbob it’s definitely a good point about the honesty thing in reviews. Ideally we will have a very large user base so these fake reviews don’t really impact the overall review but I guess if not then we may have to look at something to manage this. The idea for deals and discounts I’m sure would be appreciated by all. In regards to costs and advertising I’m not completely sure which way we are going to go but I would rather not have users frustrated at adds etc. but I also want to have as many users as possible… it’s a difficult item!

Wayman, I am hoping to launch as early as possible in 2013 as there is still a review period by Apple etc. that it needs to go through before the launch. I'll be sure to let you know though.
