Ok lads first off I’m sorry for another post on this topic, but I’ve been put in charge of arranging a golf weekend to Ireland for the lads this year.

Ideally I need to meet the below needs:

* 18 holes Saturday (maybe 27 if the course offers it)

* Ideally a nice condition course but doesn’t have to be overly punishing as there is a mix of h/c from 7 through to 24.

* Somewhere to stay either on site or very close by (friday & saturday night)

* 18 holes Sunday.

* Somewhere close-ish to a local city so should the younger ones fancy a few beers and a bit of nightlife on Saturday then it’s an option.

We haven’t ruled out any areas in Ireland so we are open to any options and suggestions. I need to cater for around 16-20 players.

cheers in advance.

Saturday golf is a tough one. In my local area there is Clandeboye GC they have two courses, both are pretty good tests, one being seriously longer than the other, shorter course is tighter though.
There are 9 courses within 5 miles here (Bangor,Carnalea,Clandeboye 2 courses, Royal Belfast, Helens Bay,Blackwood, Scrabo and Knock.. some better than others but all worthy of the green fees. Then you have Belvoir, Malone, Shandon Park, Dunmurry, Rockmount, Balmoral and Fortwilliam in and around Belfast itself. 30 miles south along the coast is Ardglass, Royal County Down Championship course and the testy shorter Anneseley course and a little further inland is Spa.
There are certainly plenty of other areas of Northern Ireland and ROI that deserve mentions but if you are looking for choice, the east coast has a lot of courses to offer.

Saying that, you could also forget September and come over in June for the Inaugural Craic Classic!

Cheers brendy, it has to be september really as atleast 6 of us are self employed and september is our quiet months at work.

Ill google the mentioned courses and see whats what, any feedback on druids?

Havent played Druids, if you want to go dublin Direction then you have Baltray further up the coast (it is fantastic if a little masochistic), portmarnock, Druids Glen, Druids Heath, seapoint etc.
As I said earlier though, it is the Saturday tee time that will be a pain unless you dont mind late afternoon so a club with two courses would be more likely to have room.

I would avoid Dublin its so bloody expensive, whene we were there played St Margarets and Stackstown (Harringons course) both really good and got times on a saturday and sunday no probs.

I would try up at Porstewart,Castlerock and Royal Portrush great for golf and nightlife in Portstewart is really good

A few places down south jump to mind, in Cork you have the choice of Fota island golf resort. It's in the top 5 courses in Ireland. There are 3 different course's in the resort with a 5 star hotel and lodges. If you rang them you would get a nice package deal off them. It's only about 10mins from Cork city aswell for the younger guys. Killarney is another good spot for golf and craic. There are 2 very nice course's there aswell,1 which just held the Irish open in 2010(Killeen course). There are plenty of hotel's I'm the area aswell that are very reasonable. Killarney has great night life aswell. You can ask for much more on a golfing weekend. I hope this is some help to you

I'm going to Carton House (30 min from Dublin) in September, 3 nights B&B & unlimited golf on 2 courses for £230, the courses are supposed to be pretty decent & the hotel looks a bit plush.

Some courses will do a society deal on a saturday plus it is worth checking out the gui website for open competitions as well - golf clubs over here are gagging for business.

If you were to fly into Shannon you could go to Shannon G.C. which would be a nice course for mixed handicaps but I wouldn't stay in Shannon as it is a dive. Limerick is the closest city and there are plenty of good pubs I'm sure. In addition to Shannon there is Adare Golf Club which again I'm sure would do a deal for you - Adare is a lovely wee village but could be pricey to stay there. Also look at Newcastle West (Ardagh) Golf Club again good for mixed handicaps.

Or from Shannon you could head north to the galway area (not sure about golf there) or you could head to the south west to areas like Killarney or you could check out Ballybunion who might do a deal for a round on the Old and the Cashel. I'm playing Tralee on Saturday for 60 Euros which is a good deal considering a high season round is 180 Euro , a similar deal may be available in September. With the economy the way it is don't be shy to haggle for larger numbers.

Druids Glen and heath are 2 good courses and the hotel is on site it about a hours drive from Dublin Airport. Not near any town of any size so not sure about night life.
Carton house is pretty much the same there are 2 good courses and the best practice facilities in Ireland but u have to pay for them.Just out side Maynooth so night life might be ok
Portmarnock Hotel and Golf links in another quality hotel and 1 golf course. In Dublin near Malahide so plenty of night life.
All these are 5 star but all seem to do great deals for hotel/golf.
Sligo would be a good spot if you wanted to head west a couple of great courses around there plus the hotels and night life would be good. There are Ryan Air flight into Knock I think which would open up the north West.
Whats the budget are ye flying or going on the ferry.
Mike

Try www.swinggolfireland.com - I did my mates 40th when I was living over there for about 20 to come over and play. You won't pay anymore and if you take a deal it will be cheaper - they will work out a workable itinerary, and can do hotels and transport too.

We played Ballyb twice, Lahinch, Doonbeg and Shannon....

I did the whole lot through them as couldn't arsed with the hassle - about 3 e-mails and 1 cheque did the whole lot...and bus driver had free beer on board (well in return for a large tip anyway!)

Some cracking trips there Sam,we flew in to Shannon and stayed in Limerick and played Limerick County twice cracking course and we were really well looked after there.
We stayed in the Jurys Inn right on the Shannon a cracking hotel a few minutes walk from the pubs and clubs one of the best trips we've had.

Odd socks,
some great options their for you listed. My mates organise a trip each year and from their experience they say Killarney.
Their trip entails hotel accom in the Gleneagle Hotel( it is only ok but they organise the golf and bus etc) They play2 courses in the Killarney Golf and Fishing club, (Killen and O Mahoney's point) they also play Dooks a fantastic links course about 30 minutes away.
With the numbers you are talking about I am sure all hotels and clubs will be falling all over you with deals.
