Hi all new on here so go easy.Im booking a golf weekend in august and have heard forest pines is worth a punt, anybody played or stayed there could give me some feedback cheers

A few of us on the forum played there last year.

There are 3 sets of 9 holes. Forest, Pines & Beeches. Apparently Forest & Pines are the best 2 so we played those twice in 2 days.
There are a lot of trees not too far off the fairways, it's the tightest driving course I've ever played on. The condition was pretty good especially for a hotel course with lots of traffic, although the greens were quite theatrically sloped a lot of the time. I think someone described them as like having a dead elephant buried underneath them!

The rooms were nice enough although I didn't spend much time in it, and the bar prices although not cheap weren't over the top.

Food was good, especially the buffet style breakfast.

I'd go there again.

I live close and played there with customers last year. Course is one of the better ones around the area and is very well maintained. Hotel is also of a good standard and has great facilities - gym, sauna etc and spa if you need that.

For a golf destination it is a great course but also well located for a few other nice alternatives if you want to play a couple of courses - Elsham and Grange Park at Messingham are decent and Normanby is close which is one I really like.

Forest Pines is the next Solheim cup venue so it shows the standard of the course - to be able to play this at 'normal' prices is a bonus.

Food is decent (and the beer) but the fish restaurant is expensive (unless with work as I was) :D :D .

I would say its worth a punt - have even looked at staying there myself with some of the deals they offer with green fees included

I do like the food, having lived local (8 miles away) up until about 4 years ago I can say that, gatecrashed a wedding there once :D but that is another story.

Sadly I have yet to play it one day I will... One day

3 nice courses. Played there with Gary (Region 3) where we only played the Forest & Pines loops, but went back later in the year for a longer stay and managed to play the Beeches as well. Not bad at all, and some really tough holes on there.
As Gary says, the courses are quite tight, lots of trees (as the names suggest) but not unplayable unless you are having a really awful day of it.
I thought the courses were in fantastic condition for the amount of visitors they get, the fairways were superb. The greens weren't too bad on our first visit but the second time we went there thay had been hollow tined and top dressed which didn't go down too well with the lads. OK I know they have to do this work, but in early August???
Hotel was "so so"...food was ok. Would I go back again?
Yes, I guess I would....as long as they told me in advance that the greens hadn't just been maintained.

Thats the crap Lincolnshire weather for you... 10 years ago some courses in Grimsby (Not cleethorpes) used to be boggy for most of the rainy season

We had played at Karsten Lakes the day before which is literally 15 miles down the road and the greens were bloody immaculate. There was no real reason (that I could see) why the greens at Forest Pines needed this treatment. The rest of the course was in superb nick.

I can only guess that some management type thought it best for upcoming events to have better condition for them than for when you came to do some excavation work.

I wish clubs would not focus so much on money but I bet you forest pines is run for absolute profit where karsten lakes is more about the golf.

I thought it was the UK bidder to host it. Has it been announced that they've got the Solheim Cup?

Back to the OP, if you're travelling with WAGs in tow, then it's a good choice as there's spa/beauty facilities there. With mates, there are better places to go based on budget, distance and standard of golfers.

Had a Society weekend there last June played all 3 nines - course was in cracking condition. Hotel rooms and food very good - stock up the calories with the buffet breakfast. :D

Only downside for most was we finished the last round just in time to see the Germans stick 4 past England.

Ye probably right there and just that the local papers are bigging it up . But still shows its a decent track to be in the running
