Golf Trip

I got an email from Chaka about Pinehurst this afternoon. Giving it some serious thought.

I went to Ashbury mamy years ago. As a serious golf venue it's not good. As a cheap place to go with a Society, as you say, great value.

Thoroughly recommend Pinehurst. Gorgeous New England style village, lots of interesting shops and cafes and a couple of bars. The Holly Inn is really quaint and you can eat there or at The Carolina (which is really grand) on the Stay, Play and Dine packages.
Lots of history, Donald Ross was brought in to design the courses and Annie Oakley ran the Gun Club.
Number 4 and Number 8 are two of my favourite courses anywhere and, of course Number, 2 is rich with tradition as well as a great challenge. We have played 7of the 9 courses there and they are all very good.
A true golfing Mecca.

Also Pine Needles is just down the road, worth an overnight there and play the course where 2 US Women’s Opens have been played.

The first thing I would do is speak to one of the golf booking companies, who are all the rage these days.

From my limited experience, they get better deals on course availability and pricing than doing it yourself and sure they have many couples trips behind them.

I don't think I would even try to do it myself again.

Now that sounds like a good idea.
The original 5 courses come back to the club house where the bar is called the 91st hole.
The other courses are a bit out of town but there are shuttles if you don’t want to drive and when you finish your round you just park the cart and your clubs are taken away cleaned and they magically appear on a cart at the next course alongside a pyramid of balls on the range. I guess the new courses must be a bit further out.
The more I think of it, the more I fancy going back there.

I use Supertravel. Ring and ask for Mark Vyner. Very helpful, been using him for years!

I would say 3 rounds at average of £100 a round roughly leaves you £1400 for somewhere decent to stay.
That should be doable comfortably.
I think somewhere like Bournemouth could be a good place to stay and play a couple better courses and 1 cheaper one

Do you mean Alnmouth, Foxton, rather than Alnwick? Alnwick is okay but nothing more than that.

I'd agree with the above, you could also throw Dunstanburgh into the mix as an option if any of the others are busy.

If you have £1k per person then any of the top holiday groups can sort out a trip

You could prob play a good amount of top courses in Portugal and Spain

Or the South Coast

Can't argue with what's here already.

Northumberland is stunning for a general stay (never got to the golf ) - went last year and rebooked for this year already - do that if we're talking late spring or summer. Physical geography fairly similar to Scottish golf coast but course rates are far lower.

Algarve or SE Spain (I'm thinking more towards Valencia - which is a great city to visit - than Benidorm ) would both be very pleasant and have lots of options in budget during early spring or autumn.

The idea of being coccooned in an all-inclusive in Turkey just leaves me cold, but others would love that; fair enough.
