Thoroughly recommend Pinehurst. Gorgeous New England style village, lots of interesting shops and cafes and a couple of bars. The Holly Inn is really quaint and you can eat there or at The Carolina (which is really grand) on the Stay, Play and Dine packages.I got an email from Chaka about Pinehurst this afternoon. Giving it some serious thought.
I went to Ashbury mamy years ago. As a serious golf venue it's not good. As a cheap place to go with a Society, as you say, great value.
Lots of history, Donald Ross was brought in to design the courses and Annie Oakley ran the Gun Club.
Number 4 and Number 8 are two of my favourite courses anywhere and, of course Number, 2 is rich with tradition as well as a great challenge. We have played 7of the 9 courses there and they are all very good.
A true golfing Mecca.
Also Pine Needles is just down the road, worth an overnight there and play the course where 2 US Women’s Opens have been played.
