Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

First match of the season today and the sun is shining. Cup game away at Hamptworth. None of our team have ever played there before. Hope the sat nav works 🤓

4BBB. Team of 8 so four matches. Team won 3-1. Happy days considering we’ve never been there before. We won our match on 17 2/1. We were down 2 or 1 hole for most of the match but got it back to all flat on 14. Halved 15 and we then won the match with birdies on 16 and 17. One from me and one from my partner 😁.

As crap as I played today 2 things have gladdened my heart.

1. Mrs M shooting her lowest round today with some of the best shots I’ve seen her hit and getting 2 pars in a round for the first time.

2. We got home and there was a delivery box waiting. Mrs M had ordered me a dozen Seed SD-02 balls, some tees and a glove from them. It came in a nice little Irish “The Craic” box, she had seen reviews of them and me mentioning I’d give the 4 piece one ago to see what it’s like a few weeks ago and never thought or said more of it. Her being Irish thought the Paddy’s day bundle with the balls mentioned was a good price so she ordered it. As a result my crap days golf has ended with a smile and I’ve heard good things so might as well give them a try.

Last night at the driving range, I'd nearly finished my basket, and I heard the horrendous tinny 'smack' noise a few times from the bay behind me. I thought, what the hell is that racket? It has to be one of those square Nike drivers everyone goes on about as being the noisiest driver of all time... I turn around, and sure enough, that's exactly what it was. I asked the bloke and he said it's not his normal 'gamer' but he just grabbed it for his practice. Then he asked me if I wanted to hit one with it - initially I sort of declined out of politeness, but then I saw he had like a 100 balls left still so I couldn't resist giving it one smack. The noise is so bad you'd have tinnitus after a couple of rounds with it!

Anyway, a fun interaction with a stranger and I can now testify to the horrendous noise of those things that people always speak about!

I think it was this one if not a very similar one:

I have left a range because of this very club. It taught me to always take headphones

I still have the original Sasquatch driver, I don’t really recall the noise being obnoxious but it was definitely different. I’ve been meaning to dig it out the cupboard and give it a whirl for a while now.

My mate had one, the noise was horrendous, like smacking a gong with a frying pan. And it looked like a George Foreman grill on the end of a broomstick.

Could’ve put this in one of 3 threads but this seems most appropriate.

For no reason we decide to take my youngest 3 to the range at Pine Ridge today to get them off of their devices and some activity that involved fresh air.

Got them a 100 balls and a bay between them and another 100 for Mrs M and myself to share in our own bay next to them. Gave them no instructions other than how to hold it with a baseball style grip and told them to just whack it and have fun. They ended up playing angry birds game on the Top Tracer trying to beat each other, whilst we did our own thing in the next bay and watching them. It brought back memories of me being a kid with cut down clubs whacking balls at Chatham driving range, whilst my dad practiced in the adjacent bay, only difference is Mrs M was having fun hitting balls whereas my mum would’ve been complaining she’s bored and sat there reading a book 😂

I’ve made some set up tweaks and was hitting the ball really well, Mrs M has the last couple of weeks just come on leaps and bounds absolutely striping her driver full of smiles and getting it out there to about 200yards with a a bit of rollout consistently bloody straight to 😒. Really improved her short irons as well which is nice to see as she was getting frustrated at them before.

We finished up at the end having a go at Angry Birds with the kids and having a giggle. It was just really nice to have all of us sharing that together and my dad would have loved it and would have been trying to give them all swing tips ❤️

Four rounds at Saunton this week. Stayed last couple of nights in the Saunton Sands Hotel too. Always pleasant.

beautiful, my colleagues in Barnstaple said the weather was lovely over the weekend. Love Saunton, should be playing there again soon. Enjoy, hope the wind is kind to you

Stood on the Par 3 16th this morning and the wind was howling.
135 yards but playing nearer 160 or even more.....
Decided on a smooth 5 iron
Wind dropped just as I hit it so I airmailed the green by 20 yards.....
But I didn't care because it was , possibly, one of the best swings I've made and the sweetest 5 iron I've ever hit....
That's what it's all about....

Weather conditions can be so different: While you were reporting storms, rain, and flooded fairways, it was freezing cold here, but sunny—and otherwise ideal conditions! 🤷🏽

And while the weather was so nice where you were yesterday, we had a storm here (reportedly up to 9 Bft!), with snow, sleet, and rain showers accompanied by thunderstorms! You wouldn’t send a dog outside in weather like that 😱, so I had a cozy day on the couch! 😊

Tomorrow morning is supposed to be cold again (around 0°C) but sunny—tee time is at 8:00 a.m.! 👍
