Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

I would say there is more chance of my house getting turned over.
Plus if my clubs do get nicked from the club I will of mysteriously just purchased a brand new set of clubs, bag trolly etc 🤣
"It says here on your claim Sir, that you play with 14 Scotty Cameron putters?"

That's correct, yes.

Did I see that your place has new digital competition boards? Clever idea.

Yes, a recent new addition.
Lots of good things happened and planned in since new head greenkeeper arrived last season too.
Looking up.

Our friend Beezerk might have to PM you his locker story, I doubt hes gonna fess up on here😁🤣

Schoolboy error..been there, done that and it was all downhill from there....

But then you can't birdie them all if you don't birdie the first. 😋
I did think about something I'd read on here about all being downhill for the round if you birdie the first, and immediately thought it doesn't look good for the year.

New Club Rule that we've been informed of today (we are told that the club doesn't have evidence - just suspicions and/or we're mitigating against future attempts) (y)

New Club Rule - Use of Automated Tee Time Booking Systems

Members must book tee times personally using the Club’s approved booking system and in accordance with the published booking rules.

The use of any automated software, scripts, bots, browser extensions, third-party services, or other technological methods designed to secure or attempt to secure tee times faster than a standard manual booking is strictly prohibited. This includes both commercially available services and self-developed or “homemade” programs.

Such practices are considered unfair to fellow members and contrary to the principles of equitable access to the Club’s facilities upheld by Farnham Golf Club.

Any member found to be using, or attempting to use, automated booking methods will be subject to investigation and disciplinary action under the Club’s rules, which may include suspension of booking privileges or further sanctions as deemed appropriate by the Committees.

So each individual must book their own tee time? For example, under your new rule I wouldn’t be able to book 10am on Saturday for myself and my two playing partners. They would be required to personally book on to the same tee time as me.

Is it not unfair that some people have faster internet, or devices that refresh faster?

Is it not also unfair that some groups mass book times then release the ones they don’t want?

No, this is talking about automated systems, IE a program. One person can still book other people on, according to whatever rules your club has.

Any individual can book a tee time for up to a further three.

The club has no control over a member’s internet speed…any with slow or no broadband will ask a better endowed mate they plan to play with to do the booking.

And yes some groups try and book blocks of tee times - but the club monitors bookings, and doing so and regularly releasing tee times ‘on the day’ is very much frowned upon. The truth at my club is that most members know the times in the week that this can happen. They either ask to be included; avoid trying to book, or book a tee time and if asked to move or swap they can decide to do so or not. In general the groups that try and block book are relaxed if others grab tee times the group had been looking to book.

The issue the club is looking to address is irrespective of your concerns…indeed if anything it is aimed at preventing automated block bookings.

Opens up a whole world of issues

If they want fairness then they need to ensure every have the same level of

Internet
PC’s
Smart phones
Mobile signal
Time the comp opens to ensure all can be available

Etc etc

There are various levels of technology that enables people to book quicker

There is in my eyes a world of difference between aiming for fairness and preventing complete and almost insurmountable unfairness.

The only chance of a way for complete fairness avoiding tech is ‘in person’ booking…and that is dependent upon availability when booking opens.
