Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

Just booked a golf trip for my son and I, Auchterarder and then Gleneagle King's course. That is happy enough but the added joy is that both allowed me to book tee times for May now. No 10 days before, all booked for definite. It's getting rarer to be able to do this, it takes the pressure off organising a trip.

I imagine Seve really wanted Seve to win as well as Norman really wanted Norman to win. 😆

Jack finished 9 under.
Seve 9-under with 4 to play - finished 7-under.
Norman 9-under with one to play - finished 8-under.
Jack was 4-under for the last 4 holes.

It was very reminiscent, for me, of the 1978 Masters.

1986 Jack did last 10 holes in 7-under for a 65 to win by one shot, after being 4 shots behind the leader at start of final round. 3rd round leader came runner-up.
1978 Player did last 10 holes in 7-under for a 64 to win by one shot, after being 7 shots behind the leader at start of final round. 3rd round leader came runner-up.

Player was 42 in 1978 and Nicklaus was 46 in 1986.

Ordered a motocaddy S7 central lock yesterday morning. It says online to ask for the rivets which I did. I asked the lady how much in total for the part, rivets and postage. She said the part is just below the minimum order for free postage, re the rivets she said you can have them for free. £20 and pence in total. They arrived this afternoon. Seriously impressed with the service. 👍

Not gonna lie, it’s been a good three days. Tuesday no golf but me and two other lads met up for a cuppa at the club. Bottom line we talked a lot of man talk. One was borderline PSA level and he has been advised re biopsies on his prostate. He was undecided. I told him I have had it and to get it done. I actually played with him today and he is getting it done on Monday. Paying private. The other guy is 65 and never had a PSA. He had a blood test yesterday and I advised him to get a PSA test even if it is just a baseline. He told me after today’s round he is booked in for one. Chuffed for them
Yesterday was gorgeous re the weather, four of us had 4 1/2 hours of laughing and joking. It really was De stress. Had a little natter with Derek Randall ex England cricket international before the round. Not seen him for a couple of years.
Today out last in a fuddle of 18 lads. Bottom line I was a machine, an absolute machine. I have never driven the ball so well, all of my game just clicked and it felt easy. 24 points on the front nine with two lip outs. 19 on the back nine with another lip out and hit the pin with a putt from 25 yards. Ended up winning front nine and overall.
After 15 I had not one double bogey on the round, 1 point on 16 and a blob on the 17th par three. 40 shots on the front nine my lowest ever and 44 on the back. 7 pars and 9 three pointers off hcap of 20.i was buzzing.
After the round and the money was given out. One of the lads who runs the fuddle books gave a presentation re last years achievers. Tash only went and won most improved player.
I got a trophy and a certificate. 😂😂
Some days golf is about the golf, and other days it’s about the physical and mental wellbeing.

Cracking morning practising after renewing my practice membership, some chipping & pitching, a few putts and then 70 balls on the grass range.

To make it even better, the rain started just as I was leaving.

That we’ve been able to be open with a full course in play almost all of January…albeit with carry-only and temps quite a few days. Only closed a small handful of times. And that is despite the January rainfall figures for the club…177mm actual vs 60-80mm typical. It’s been an exceptionally wet January - but the course has (mostly) coped.

Big congrats for that due to the greens team - plus our major rainwater and field runoff water management work of last three years - which seems to be working.
