Me and HID are planning a night away somewhere with a spa (for her, obviously!) and a decent golf course, don't really want to go much further than the midlands but would for somewhere really good. I've looked at Celtic and the Belfry but are there any others worth considering over those two?

staverton park has a spa, swimming pool and a golf course

hellidon lakes has all including a 10pin bowling alley

the welcombe also has all your looking for, and is only a few minutes from the Royal Shakespeare Company, so maybe that could be an option too

Forest of Arden usually has some cracking deals, although can get a bit wet.

If you really want to splash out though, the Grove is hard to beat.

Lingfield was good. Golf course was good enough, friendly staff and members, was in decent enough nick. Hotel and spa were very good. A decent all rounder imho and not expensive.

Not sure how Midlands it is but Rudding Park in Harrogate is a fab hotel and the misses assures me the spa is excellent. I can vouch for the food, top notch! The course is a Hawtree design, definately interesting enough to keep you occupied though we did find it quite busy (in summer, probably get a quieter time now). They also have a great little par 3 course that is definately worth a look if you have a short time to spare, it's only 6 holes but well-maintained and a decent challenge.

If you do go get the upgraded rooms (cant remember if its Follifoot or the other one), the entry level ones are a bit dated. They do deals where you stay, dine and golf/spa, so you're only paying for booze once you've arrived. We love the hotel, been 4 or 5 times now and never once disappointed.

Whittlebury ? Spa is first class and the courses are ok
