I know golf insurance has been covered many times on here. In fact it was due to reading stuff on here that I decided to go with GolfPlan..however....

I went for their cover that is upto £2000. Then you have list all of your equipment, which I duly did. This came to a total of £2304.

They then came back to me and said they would not ensure my Go Kart Trolley and Bushnell Rangefinder as those items take it over the £2000. But, I could go for the next level of insurance at £2500 and they would be covered.

I said...

Ok, lets keep it at the £2000 level and I fully understand that I will not get paid out more than this sum but I would like the aforementioned items to be part of the cover. Often I'm not carrying my water proofs or using my Go Kart, so it is more than likely that if my bag did get stolen/lost there would not be more than £2000 worth of gear in it.

Seems reasonable to me ??

But, they will not go for this and it seems I have to go for the full ( Executive ) cover at £95, instead of £65

Odd.

Don't be such a Scrooge. You're talking about less than 10p per day for the extra cover. ;)

I'd get on the phone and haggle. I'm looking around as mine is up in June and thinking of going back to Carrick Neill who did me a good deal a few years back. Went with Golfplan for cost along but sure I can get Carrick Neill to give me a decent quote.

One thing I always check is that I'm covered if my clubs are in my locker (locked) in the changing rooms and it gets broken into. Has happened a few years back and two of the guys had serious issues trying to claim

I work in insurance claims
my advice would be to ditch golf insurance, total waste of money on all fronts, as most will find out if they try to claim.

Not doubting your advice at all, but can you give a bit more detail and explain why this is the case?

hi
the restrictions for theft cover are very strict
if the golf insurer ask for a list of kit at the outset, be careful to tell them of every change you make to your kit
be sure to tell them if you are going abroad unless you have paid for the top level policy
the hole in one bar bills are nearly always for qualifying events only
the liability will similarly be restrictive and not all eventualities would be covered....and further I would doubt any court would hold an amateur golfer liable for hitting someone with an accidental/poor shot.
i have never heard of a pro getting sued for errant shots.

this would be a different story if for example (and I have seen people do this).... you stand facing away from the course and hit balls into a field/beach/lake and a passer by got hit, you could be held liable for this as you have deliberately played away from the intended line of play
